My understanding is that Endless River was essentially surplus material from the Division Bell sessions. It's mostly Rick Wright material that was resurrected and then over dubbed. I haven't bought it and likely won't.

Gilmour and Waters work together like Lennon/McCartny. Both very talented but at their best when using each other to temper their ideas and limit the self indulgence.

That sums it up for me.

Gee Bill Nelson has certainly done a lot of stuff.  Have never heard of him!  Most of it is certainly not ambient.  The word ambient can mean a lot of things.  I have a very different interpretation of it.  I have ordered the CD (Endless River) and will listen to it many times before I pass judgment.  Something that one should do with any album.  Often after repeated listening you can have  a different view.  This sounds interesting to me and could be a good thing that it is in fact a lot of Richard Wright experiments too.  Something that may have not happened before.

Wow...you have some catching up to do Jeff. Be Bop Deluxe were a stand-out band for me in the '70's, they bridged the gaps between pop, rock and prog, and Bill hasn't let up since. One of my biggest influences in guitar playing and composition.

Thanks James. I agree.  It is one of the reasons I like this forum.  You find out stuff you just never knew about. Yes I guess with Bill Nelson there is a lot of catching up to do.   Except he has got so much stuff out there I am not sure where to start.  I see he is pretty guitar orientated but has done some ambient electronic stuff.  I just need to figure out what I want to listen to first.

Bill needs to create an "Album of the Month Club!"

Only Buckethead (AFAIK) has had more prolific output.

Amused To Death is pretty good, standout tracks are "What God Wants Pt1", "Pt2" & "Pt3".

Better than "pretty good", IMO.  This is one hell of an audio spectacle start to finish - I just wish they'd release a surround version that delivers on that front as well as DSOTM did in it's surround release.  A bit of trivia: the album employs a sports broadcaster commenting upon heavy-duty military action at one point.  The sports caster is none other than Marv Alpert, the fellow later found out to have a predilection for wearing women's underwear.

Water's The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking is another great effort.  I have a pretty righteous set of speakers, but this is the one album that seems to be made for headphone listening.

Also, Richard Wright did a couple of very good solo albums that no PF fan should overlook.  The album Broken China gets frequent play in my house.

It's true sometimes, in the creative act composers get overly emotional and overly sensitive to criticism.  However,  as witnessed by the song forum, some people actually write better when they're mad at someone! :D:D

Nice bit of slide in there too.

And Jeff Beck ripping though there ... it is a very, very good album in my book
