• SONAR
  • Recording Audio - I'm sure there is no way to do this but.....

I'm recording some automation for a film I am working on and the scene requires VERY precise automation timings....What I would dearly love to do is record in half time to the picture so I can be more accurate in the automation recording.....Then obviously playback at normal speed once the take has been recorded.

Anyway of doing this? (Dont forget its to video)

I don't know if you can do it in half speed with video.
As it might be quite hard to be very precise doing the automation live, I would do it aproxximately live, and then edit the nodes, UNLESS....
if your live automation writing produces zillions of nodes in wild bunches, which take forever to clean up,  then I would just add an envelope and set all the nodes by hand.

Yup, good point.
I could do it that way but find that process too mechanical for my organic needs on this scene, needs the human touch...plus being able to do it to video live.

I will probably experiment with exporting into Premiere and rendering the video to half time, record automation in there and then bring the audio back into Sonar, its just a destructive way of doing it tho.

Would be a nice feature to be able to record automation in half time, probably not enough people wanting it for a feature request but hey ho.

Could you simply automate in Sonar after recording/tracking the audio source? You'd have every option to manually adjust automation points, such as Gain, which would be closest to what you'd be doing if you were automating volume on an input console going into Sonar. Or are you automating a sound from outboard gear that is to an effect rather than Volume, compression, or EQ?

That feature already exists - just lower the tempo, enabling Audiosnap's autostretch function on audio tracks as necessary to follow the change. The feature that's missing is variable video playback speed.

I am automating volume on some recorded foley (To get an erratic breathing envelope to match the picture of a bulging stomach), so have remote controlled Sonars volume on my Midi controller..... its just the cuts in the film are so fast.couple of seconds here and couple of seconds there....Half time would help.....

I guess really I just need to do loads of takes and whatever comes closest use that take then painstakingly edit the nodes frame by frame after....A bit boring but hey ho....

I'm just being lazy I guess.

Correct, Not to picture which is what I would love.
