I want to know if these cans are sweat proof...

I sweated on and into my $99 Sony's over the weekend and one side doesn't sound.

Keep us all posted if these go on sale for $99

Most electronics don't respond well to being soaked with sweat. These headphones are rugged though. More so than my Sony MDR-7506

Yeah, I highly recommend the ATH-M50 headphones- they are great!
I have the Sennheiser HD-280PRO headphones also, and the ATH-M50 cans are just better all the way around....more comfortable too.  I do use them all the time when mixing, along with my monitor speakers.  I think they give a pretty good representation of what's at the bottom octave in my mix.
I also have a set of Sennheiser HD-580 headphones which are just spectactular in the mids and highs, but unreliable for mix decisions in the lows.  The HD-580s are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn though; I can wear them for hours.  I use them mostly for editing, and sometimes for tracking myself (when I am playing a MIDI instrument).

Skylightron-
I don't think I have ever seen the ATH-M50 headphones for anywhere near $99 (new).  That price that Yorolpal got was pretty good!  You can find the Sennheiser HD-280PRO cans for $99, but they aren't quite as good, IMO.

Wow- that price that jbow found was the lowest I've ever seen for a set of new cans.
Wish that is what I had paid!

I have the Senn HD515's and they are also the most comfortable I have ever worn and can wear them for hours.  they sound excellent but they are not for mixing - they also have boosted highs and mids.  but I do love them!  I've been thru 2 pair.  they always seem to break on the sides above the left earpiece - I realized that's where I grab them to take them off and it puts stress on the plastic there.

That brings up a good point, Reece.  The Sennheiser HD580s have detachable cable connections on ear earcup, so if the wires become intermittent, you can replace the whole cable assembly without having to take the earphones apart and perform surgery.  Good modular design!  I don't know if the HD515s are built that way also, but the ATH-M50 cans definitely are not.

My ATH-M50's have a lot of miles on them. Literally. I've taken them with me to the Philippines twice. They are my studio headphones and they are also my kick-back-with-joint headphones. They get tossed around, tripped over, dropped to the floor, and even rained on once. After all that, the cushions are not cracked and neither the cable nor connector has ever needed repair.

A magazine review once said that the cushion covers are made from a material originally designed for car seats. I'm guessing that's the secret of its durability.

I got a pair recently (after much advice on here, I might add!) and they're just superb. The sound quality is glorious (I'm a real novice when it comes to home studio work, but a friend of mine is far more experienced and has worked professionally in studios and the day after he borrowed my ATs he went out and bought a pair for himself). The build quality is really impressive, too - the whole twisting/pivoting mechanism on the cups just feels so well engineered. Best £110 I spent in a long time.
