Just got a new set of ATH-M50S headphones from Audio Technica...on sale now at my local GC for only $130.00 during the 4th of July sale.  These are now industry standard and once you put them on and listen to any program material you'll know why.  They are amazing.  Especially for the price.  I urge you to go to your local GC or where ever and give them a critical listen.  Just dandy.
 
       
Thanks for turning me onto those, I'll definitely seek a pair out. Maybe they have them at B&H Video in Manhattan on their seemingly endless headphone demo rack. Price seems very reasonable as well, they go for around $130 on Amazon.

What is the difference between the M50 and M50S ?

From the AT website:
  • Available in black color with coiled cable (ATH-M50), white color with coiled cable (ATH-M50WH), and silver color with straight cable (Limited Edition ATH-M50s/LE)

    People cringe at 100 dollar headphones, but in the Beats by Dre era where headphones are becoming a status symbol and quality playback for mobile devices is more important you can't go wrong with a pair of AT-m50s.
