My mic dropped twice and now I think I am nuts but since the dropping of the mic it seems like the volume has changed. What I notice now is that I have to turn on Dynamic component in Motu and turn up the threshold to gain enough of an input to do anything with but to do that I get a his buzz sound like something is to loud and that is in my track. I am curious for those using condenser mics how are your levels before recording and at what level is a good vocal recording needed for a good mix. I am hoping I don't have to buy another mic but it is looking that way

An extremely expensive mic is probably worth fixing, while a cheap mic is best not worried about and replaced

I went cheap but it worked well in my opinion MXL990 but now I have some serious work lined up and I don't have a big budget but what do you guys suggest as a middle of the road Condenser mic? Also what are you using and how do you like the quality?

Middle of the road could mean many things in terms of budget. I would say middle of the road is $1000 and under. But other people may think middle of the road is more like $500 and under. What price tag would you put on it? Also what other mics do you currently have? And what are you wanting it primarily for? General purpose?

I am leaning towards the $500 mark and this is for vocals, I don't have a setup for live instruments passed my motif and my bass rig which I run directly into my Motu MK3.  The price we pay for our addiction geez.....

Here is something else I took for granted what kind of mic stands are you guys using, my setup got top heavy and fell over?

Anytime you are using a microphone heavier than a standard hand-held dynamic (say, a Shure SM-57 or -58) there needs to be a boom with counterweight on the other end to help stabilize the stand and prevent the mic from toppling over.

There are a number of ways to accomplish this, and the price range for these boom stands is almost as wide as the price range for microphones themselves.

To find something in your budget that will do the job (once you have decided on a new mic, that is) just start searching any of the major music supplier outlets online for "boom microphone stand".
