Talk about confused more both sound great to me but in my opinion the NT1a has more of a natural tone to it.  The SEX1 is clear but lighter in tone if that makes sense, both are an upgrade from the MXL 990 I wish I had time to see how both come through in a mix.  I think the NT1a is on sale for $219 so.....

I am on my 3rd Rode Nt1.
I have others more expensive mics,
but I am accustomed to the NT1 sound.
I would buy a 4th if the one I have dies out.

PS
They don`t like being dropped
My cat toppeled my 1st, clumsy singer #2,
Still for $200, great vocal mic, IMO

Good luck

Opinion: Many mikes. Pre-amp needed probably. Shock mount - added cost. I use this which also works good enough for me: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MK4/ all mikes: http://www.sweetwater.com...-Condenser_Microphones GC had one, so I tried it and bought the Senn.

I went with the Node NT1-A because it was in the store for one, they told me that if I don't like it I can exchange it for the X1 so I will keep you guys posted

I have an NT1-A. It sounds great on a limited number of sources, but isn't very versatile. It mostly lives in the mic case and only comes out for one particular singer for whom it's well-suited. If you can spend a little more, an AKG C214 is a much better mic for about $150 more than the Rode.

Update bought a heavy duty professional tri-base stand works great!!  Test the mic and so far from just me playing around with it the quality is great, much stronger and clearer signal.  Still waiting to test with vocalist but I think this will improve my overall sound greatly.
