I like the way that RME do it. Press the ASIO button in Sonar, the app opns, I make a change and without so much as a bllnk of the screen the changes are reflected in Sonar.

Really? Are you using x3? I use RME and had similar experience to what you describe when I used 8.5. But with x3d it seems to work as you describe until I actually play back audio. A that point the sound is garbled. I need to restart Sonar for the change to be effective.

I believe the recommendation is to cycle the audio interface after changing settings, to refresh everything.

But, if it works for you without doing so, more power to you.

I always do it, but then again, I haven't changed settings in about 2 years, so it's really not even a minor deal for me to reload Sonar after disconnecting and reconnecting my interface.

I'm using an RME FF800 (FireWire) with the latest drivers on X3d. It works 100% of the time. Of course the transport needs to be stopped but I don't need to restart Sonar for the change to take effect.

Interesting. I use the UFX with x3d. I always need to restart Sonar using using either USB or FireWire. I seem to recall not having to restart when using 8.5.
