Because all the other synths are not GM synths. They are not designed to handle the preamble in the files you are importing. Either restrict using the files to TTS-1 or clean them up so they will play everywhere else. Or maybe get in the habit if inserting the MIDI Event Filter MFX in every MIDI track.

GM? Please no acronyms unless you specify the meaning of it - what is a GM Synth?

ah ok..

You mention

"Or maybe get in the habit if inserting the MIDI Event Filter MFX in every MIDI track."

Would you care to elaborate???  Do I just drag the "MIDI Effect Filter" from the MIDI FX to the midi track FX Bin?

The plug-in goes in the MIDI FX bin. It has various filtering options.

Good, like was posted here
"...you are going to continue to have issues with imported MIDI because of the instructions at the beginning of the files. Before playing your third party MIDI files, make sure to clean them up. When the sfz engine synths encounter files like the one I saw, they go silent. This includes Session Drummer, DimPro, Rapture and the SI synths."

Conclusion:

I went one step further and identified which of the events cause dimension pro to play up.. I filtered all Pitch Wheel, RPN and Patch Change events.  The file runs just fine now with Control events included along with all the Notes.

  • Load the MIDI file. If playing the MIDI file does not sound, the problem lies in the MIDI data.

Hi scook, I don't necessarily agree with this point - why then does CW TTS work ALL the time, even where there are events none data notes related?

With regards to the other points you listed - please read through my previous post - you'll see I have already gone through all these points....

TTS-1 works fully setup because for this version of Sonar it has been programmed that way. Cakewalk have taken care of all the behind the scenes work so that a beginner can start to make "music" straight away.

Also if you now have an answer to your original question you can edit the original thread title to include the word ANSWERED. You do this by editing your first post.

Hi Mike,

All is good - just working with midi files that were created that include Pitch Wheel & RPN commands - these seem to play a little havoc with some of the VSTi's...

Once again thanks for your help, its all a little daunting at first but I think I'm now a little more proficient in using all this little bits and pieces...
