  • [Solved] Sonar x3c Crashing with x2a Projects and odd behavior (p.13)

Sir Les
Sorry Bob...Win 7 64bit professional this time round....less things to tweak and turn off.

ASUS CPU settings are in my BOIS...
1. intel (R) HT tech enabled=all= all cores active.
2. Active Processor cores= ALL= number of threads to be enabled in each processor Package.

No such animal resides where you claim in win 7 Pro..on my machine or updated build...and the pic proves me right.

So lets drop that now...as I proved I know where the settings are...cause I just went and checked that out...as my mead consumption lead me to remember doing that tweak in Bios many time over and over, and over...before.

And you asked me, and I said isn't that in Bios?....and you posted this crap to make me run around for nothing more than once!...that is a circle to me...and I am tired Bob...and time is wasting away....this is serious, and I have been months here on these forums asking for help....and getting the run around till today with guesses and laptop links to Power management or what you say you have on your system...ultimate....is not pro win 7.

I I think if I follow back...when I mentioned the reinstall and posted the page of something here....it state it on that page.

Again circles Bob...circles...read up...or leave me alone....But do not imply I do not read and do things that are already done....and then bash me for being suppior and knowing everything.....and saying things that are not true....cause I hate that Bob.

Now...I have taken word that you both have better things to do than service me....with your knowledge of Sonar...and have walked away from this.

Please excuse my anger...and my words of frantic expressions to gain your ATTENTION ...I am not stupid...And I know what I have to do...it has to be done...no way around it...and it is not plug and play.

Tweaking the services...and background applications of security...firewall...and such first.

But I will let em go on untweaked...Just to show you more pics of cpu Spikes...

I also found the CPU metering...and all cores are 100% in win 7,,,,But I have to run help and then get in to it....it shows a lot of things .

two processors were parked when I went into see it working....not sure what that means..but I had nothing running.

With the Microsoft tweaks of the auto updates...turned off....sonar x3c still has spikes going on....and as in the pic those spikes go into the red zone...
So that is not good for my CPU....nor my r 16 desk hitting the red all the time.

And I do not want to burn either of those things while you banter me with this kind of behavior ....I'm past the basic level of tweaking simple things Bob.

So lets move on from there please.,,,with better attitude towards my skill level , and words of ethics being used by me.....Thank You Bob.

Wow - I wasn't trying to run you in circles.  And it was never 'banter' from me - was trying to find a way to move you forward.

I also have not at any point thought you 'stupid', or anything else but frustrated at things not working as they should.

There seems to be little or nothing I can do to assist you, and at this point I am certainly not inclined to do so, so that's it for me.  I hope you get things sorted out.

Good luck,

Bob Bone

With a desktop, there is NEVER any reason to worry about saving power, and particularly for streaming audio applications, such as Sonar, you want the most horsepower your CPU cores can give, 100% of the time.

Won't running full blast generate more heat, so more wear'n'tear and fan noise ?

I can see you might need max power doing certain operations, but isn't it a good idea to let things cool down when you're not ?

My CPU is 140w, that's quite a lightbulb to be turned on all the time.

I'm no expert on this, and have wondered what it actually means to set the minimum state of the CPU to 100% when it's not doing anything.

I certainly am not either, but that's how I have been running for several years now, and the only hardware components that have ever had issue were a couple of worn out hard drives, and one piece of junk 512 GB SSD.

I also would never consider using a green disk drive, for the same reasons, not to mention that there are several reports of green drive's variable spin rates causing problems.

Perhaps one could change those CPU percentages when getting ready to launch a Sonar session, and set them back down when finished.

Others may weigh in on this with more expertise.  I would think your power supply already runs at way more than 140w, so if your computer is on wouldn't the CPU power consumption delta be fairly small potatoes, comparatively speaking?

I certainly do not recall when and where I had been advised to run in the manner I do, set at 100%, but it has worked and is consistent with my thoughts on giving all available power to Sonar.  That's what my music machine was built for.  Additionally, I also have liquid cooling and as many fans as I could mount in the case.

Lastly, although my computer is able to be overclocked, which would generate a bunch of extra heat, I do not overclock, and have the thought that running at 100% at default voltages to be within tolerances for the computer's components - given the cooling present.

Sir Les
Now when I did do those VIPER TWEAKS..I printed up back in the hay day of win7 new comings..for AUDIO SETUPS..in xp and win7 many moons ago, and months ago to get things going...when that was printed  I cannot remember...I went into googling the tweaks to read up, even though Viper described the app or services well enough TO DISABLE back then when win 7 came out.
to see if there were issues....with the new crowed os...And I believe in those tweaks more now, the more I trust to use them, and turn off services, the better it gets perhaps?...it seems today, I have the proof with x2a working well enough with some of them employed Just Pryor this build of the fresh Win 7 OS now!

Can weSolve for X...if the proving of those tweaks has done this for me in the last build?...and in this build with no tweaks at all in some regards...even the ones I know are cultprits for causing havoc in software...like virus programs and malware, firewall...and security apps...these are known to cause problems...but no, leave them on...is asked of me now here on this build....I do not see the logic in that anymore...with the proof and solutions I have witnessed first hand with the tweaks working.

Now this is a last resort method for last resort tactics ...radical thinking...and most of all, not to be done blindly or without proper researching the services before doing any!

So...no worries....if we are going to crash the pc by AlexS suggestions to turn on Plug and Play...with out him ever seeing my system with it on,or hands on with it at all...and I have...and the plug and play doesn't get turned off for no reason here....everything has a reason with me....cause I been there, and I have tried that and this and other things...because people told me to..and I let them guide me to horrific and then...to system bliss with that plug and play off on this machine with audio in mind.

I turned off the onboard sound card in THE BIOS....1402.
Sonar x3c is still showing cpu spikes...into the red.

I turned off the defender, and firewall now.

Let us see what happens next.

baby steps of my own methods now.

I can see you might need max power doing certain operations, but isn't it a good idea to let things cool down when you're not ?

It depends how well your PC manages the power. Mine doesn't do it very well so it's set at 100% otherwise it will spike. I've yet to see a PC that does this very well. For DAW/video and intensive CPU applications I can't see an alternative. I would never though change this on my work PC that just runs MS Office for instance.

NB Sure anything running faster will wear out faster, CPU's however are designed to run at 100% all the time. You will soon find out if your PC is being overloaded CPU wise - it will freeze (or start smelling of fish).

Sidenote - yup Les reach for the magic beans, that will cure it ;)
2013/12/01 12:52:30
Sir Les
Well where is the cure in leaving background apps running AlexS...and now tweaks, to agreeing with Bob to Tweak things in Power management for the cpu power or cores that does not exist, and yet agreeing with him..and saying I know it all and because You means I know nothng...cause Bob is right all the time as you both believe in yourselves on that ...never mind other things.....You say I know it all, and then say your leaving....and Bob to...And we both know it means I am stupid....

Yet I can tweak the system just past build...with no help, and take risks, and do those tweaks on my own...and gain less spikes in the software of Sonar.

Now You address me with banter again....and yet those magic beans I have printed up seemed to work on this very System with the same drivers, same motherboard...with x2a to some degree...and the tweaks I have are not the new ones...they are old....So if I go to that site and read up...I may gain even better results!

Magic beans  have in some regard made the last build workable with sonar x2a to some degree.....as I am having issues still with your advise so far!...as a Microsoft X tech told me in this thread post back a bit...they do not fix things if they do not have to.....wink

Sir Les
Thanks AlexS...I agree mostly with the rage!

And You take note of that rage of Spock in that pic...and multiply it by 100...and then realize how nice I have been in taming my temper, posting here for months for x1, x2, x2a,.......and getting to this state now...with x3c all recorded here...and still with help, it is starting off again with Help...and No one knows what to do other than ....?...some tech wizard? and secret tweaks?...Now I am not that wizard...But some of his tips calm down the cpu cpu spikes and crashing....So I was able to record and make projects of a reasonable accomplishment with no clicks pops buzzes and crap...on the line...And that says something is valid with those tips....I did not imploy them all as I have no clue what is need in sonar to work.

I would love to turn off all networking stuff...But is that need for sonar?...or other software?...I do not write the code.
I know I do not need Fax services running...SO I turned it off...and other things I know are safe...in Win Services.

So I am leaning towards hashing this with someone who knows what there doing...You seem to know...

SO let us stop dicking around here...all this has been said before...and we are wasting time arguing  about power management settings....and I said before bob even posted his requests to do so.....I have done the power management tweaks...to stop win 7 from going to sleep and turning off my hardware.!

So some one is not reading...I do not need a abc's to power management Advance page on a laptop to make me go in circles...I think I pointed that out!

Pic speaks for itself.

Point made...I know where things are mostly, and if I do not know Internet is wonderful...cause I can find my own pictures that do apply to the win 7 build I am running....Another thing Bob over looked in the System info page I posted....and asks again for my version after posting it.

Now if you agree with bob on that power management debuckle...and nuff off saying you been here too long ... I have to ask ..Why am I letting you two Guide me?...I been bashing at this for months, And I am still here...and trying to help others as I go through this.

So my temper is tamed down real nice ...I hope you can appreciate that AlexS....To see it all Starting off again in a new Build of win 7 plain ...With those services..and internet on...Just because you asked me to follow your methods....(Which I have tried countless time on my own)...that is why I am here since months...and I found a tech at allen and heath who told me to turn off the internet nic and remove the driver
for it....But we progress...leave the internet on, do not install the allen and heath driver...everything is ok with the plain clean install of win 7.....Nice...but as soon as that desk driver is installed...win 7 hanged on a download

SO just installing drivers for the devices is hard...DO YOU SEE MY POINT ALEXS....And I have the formula...SO leaving the defaults default...and things running in background do not help me...

And I do not want to use the onboard sound card with sonar.....

Now my TEST PIC..has a lot of info in it...if you gleen it....time stamp, might not see the time of the  win task bar clock but it is there, and this might help find out what happened in win 7 in event viewer...to cause it....and seek it out.

Radical thinking AlexS....That is what I need....here...and we turn it off if we can!

Sir Les
IN my ALLEN AND HEATH applet (it is a windows applet on the desk top, not a mixing console but is tied to ASIO and WMD) DPC or DCP...it checks latency...I ran it when I installed it at the first get go with sonar 1x.
I can run in 3 modes
Normal is said to be OK...and I can use 9600khx with no problem...it says, when I select that in the applet, the buffer changes to suit it.

My system will work with this and sonar 1x stipulated by the Allen and Heath manufacture, and has templates and maps for it already made for Sonar x1, Protools 9, and some other high end DAWs...my specs are well above min requirements....wouldn't you say?

My Drives are fast, and listed in my spec below.
Issues may be with the usb external drives...I will make note of that next testing run.

The amount of manuals and text, anf troubleshooting tips and tricks I have read, to setup this system up exceeds by far the amount of threads in this post...and is on going Bob..I have to, and have read BOB..and I am reading even more now!...you see me complaining about reading amounts of text BOB?
