Great advise that...
Yes beware of software!!! ;) As you know when developers do updates for their software they do it especially to make their software less stable.
Stability fix = instability fix. Performance fix = Slowdown fix ;)

Funny how I'm running the latest drivers and all the latest updates for all my software. Everything on my system is up to date and it runs stably without the need of the wonderful viper tools ;). the only thing I had to do is disable the 64 bit precision engine.
Anyways...

Sir Les
I found this similar on the Avid Forums.
Seems this person went to extremes with remote help, and they found nothing wrong.

I will keep looking into this, as it seems to be a hardware issue...possible a bad batch of cpu or the like...?

Just trying to solve for, so others who have issues with DAWs overcome..and with out going in circles...resolve.

Thanks to all who tried to help, and continue to do so...

Funny How Sonar's update from x1 to x2a or b, or to 3xc brought the buggy engine into play...So updating does cause issues...and You made that clear in the above.

Now when updating firmware, that works with chipsets that cannot be flashed on mb...other issues might arise with conflicting or problematic performances.....Just saying...it is not always the case, that updating solves problems...Although they should, sometimes...and turning off the double precision engine which is one of Sonars tooted high points...makes things more sided towards my stand point....right?

I recall the Atari Falcon 68060/ Motorola single cpu...GEM OS or TOS X..one of my dream machines way back in the hay day...working with 8megs, doing 8 tracks of audio, and 16 midi tracks, with old 8meg ide drives...Today we toss 16megs or more, multi cores cpu, and fast SSD's GB and HDD TB, and WIN xp, win7, and now 8.1 into the fray...With sometimes less , Sometimes with more Problems than its predecessors....funny how that is...also noted here....sometimes more is less, and less is more...problematic....Just saying...;)

Nope. You should be running backups should you ever need to roll back. Patches always fix more they break that's just a fact (unless you are living in the days before Windows 7).

Alex...I wiped out my drive in this thread, with your word attached..and installed with no tweaks to the os , as you asked, and installed the drivers of the system, and then the audio driver ..and installed very little there after, with Bugs just installing drivers for the audio/ in conflict with the onboard nic...and you want me to back that up?....right from the get go, and install onto, We seemed to go through problems...and the cpu problem still there.

Now that advise to back up is moot ..in this regard....Back ups when all is working would be a thought of merit...but it seems I have not had that grace bestowed upon me YET with this system....and when it is all working, that would be the time to do that...As I am still troubleshooting and wiping out the OS and all installed, waiting on parts RMA ...In this thread...Your comment is ignorance of that state I make pointed.

And if everything is constantly being updated/fixed/upgraded...then perhaps one should just wait before Buying into anything PC and or software and hardware...and save save save those big big bucks till they work out the bugs in a final rendition?...never gona happen any time soon, as this has been going on for years!!!!!...cause backing up Bugs and bad code is pointless...I could/SHould Bunt back at yah.  </;-)

Sir Les
And what about win 8...that would be a now factor you forget about?...xp was a very good OS..for its time.
Win7 is kinda locked down to only allow tweaks...one cannot assign IRQ's or make them exclusive...And this is why so many people are having issues with clipping, clicks and pops on their audio , when win 7,...etc decides to share Irq's with their audio devices....and this could be intermittent dependant on boot sequence, and day...as Win 7 may do the sharing at boot time as need be, in random orders....I have no idea...but it does share IRQ's and people are having issues...with that...and not being able to assign them properly....from what I have read on the MS forums for win 7.

And this is now moving into win 8?...8.1...that is why people are reverting backwards it seems....eh?

Now Alex, to reopen this hash and long winded post,, so it floats on the current pages...
And the content there in...You and Bob, ask me to tweak the power management, which I did to stop things from going to sleep, and such...on a new install of the Win 7 OS...and in that thread, I was asked to turn up cpu % and something went terribly wrong there after, with our communication....and that ended the help?...But Alex and Bob's tweaks go on?...but you seem to not like Black vipers tweaks...What I am trying to say Alex is Win 7 no matter how much you like the defaults, has to be tweaked to run a recording DAW...No matter how much you want to keep things at defaults...some things just interfere with the process!

That is what I am trying to say...and solve for, on this Asus Sabertoooth particular system here, now in pieces....but is not exclusive to me alone, as I posted some link to a Avid forum showing others with completely different systems... Apple macs having issues with cpu usage being oddly monitored...and or spiking into 130% levels....and making the cpu hotter than hell.

So it is not with me alone some of the symptoms are alike...and I would like to find out what is causing it...using tweaks helps reduce variables, the calling on or of the cpu time, via turning off apps and services,...and then if more events happen, one could then try other troubleshooting techniques I know nothing about...to route out the problem.

Right now...it is looking more and more like a SSD issue, or the old controller chip on the motherboards being used is no longer in sync with the newly flashed firmware on the drives I updated.....to my guessing eye, perhaps updating and such caused to manifest itself more here?...well it was a new system once upon a time...if it needs updates , surely you can agree that something was not right with it as it was...and so bad or broken or not functioning correctly...which means it is still going on..and will be like that until it is no longer....How does something get made right the first time out?...and stays standard throughout its life time????...when PC's or Apples are concerned?....They do not!= cash cow~and so you now are caught up in that , saying the opposite of me???.

Sir Les
So in breaking the circle of Moot...Thanks Alex for your input so far, and all the other posters...I would like to apologize for my worded babble of interest to some...And move forward in seeking the solutions...(told there are none in this case = Probably a bad motherboard)

Allen and Heath technician called me earlier on, and told me to take the system out of the mix...and build something newer, that would support the SSD drives better....
We went over the issues...and they could not help, as this R16 mixing desk is no longer being R&D in their establishment.
And most of their techs are now trained on the newer Thunder bolt technologies coming into play and their new Mixing desks.

My move now is...?....I have purchased New Asus Motherboards z87, Pro, Deluxe quad, with this Thunderbolt on two, and one without...32gb of corsair vengeance ram, cpu 4770k...and a new PSU from corsair  AX850  ...the PSU from corsair, seems to burn out the two Boards I connected to it...SO RMA in now being sought with Corsair...if They find their PSU product defective, and causing my issues with the new stuff..cpu 4770k and memory...if burnt out...I will be compensated for the cost their of, or replacement parts at their expense.

So...buying parts..when doing so...always be mindful of ...The Cash Cow Principle and Murphies Law....cause these two things apply to everything!....

Right Alex?...sorry for the bunting

Sir Les
This Just in...I am moving platforms.
As The Corsair People are just now doing their long testing of burnt out boards, and possible Parts....and may take a few more weeks, as  it took 2 &1/2 weeks to send due to winter RUSH...I may not have a PC system for another month or so...So I went and asked about the new Mac Pro 8 core systems...and bought one!....The fool that I am..when it comes to New, One might think oh they worked out the bugs in it?...Not always true...from my experience.....might as well go all out and be the next Bug tester for the next Updated system in technology and try the other side of things...making the standard change again?.....Perhaps to the betterment of all...?...well let us take notes.

Being in touch with other studio friends...They have all told me, that Macs work better at this sort of DAW thing, and most pro studios use Macs...Protools is heavily invested in Mac sided ventures...although they have tried to cross to the PC world with some PT DAWs...it seems to work with some but not all, and it still has issues in both camps...So, I guess, this is true with all DAWs?... As I have had a few on the PC side, with verying audio devices, as the solution for...and all have had updates for bugs, and fixes rendered and bios updates and such made to make them work or not, and new this or that added to sweeten the pie....But it still goes on....no standards really...seems to be the theme...to keep things flowing in a certain direction of flow in my mind making the unknown?.....Cash Cow Live....at least in theory to so being a possibility now exposed?

Now some have invested in big rigs..with exclusive hardware with the software said to work with it, and or is made by the same software company in some cases.....and they are in a uproar, about older devices and plug ins no longer supported in the new....again I see the reasoning, only because of my perspective being alternately adjusted to the Cow's practices and methods...

Just saying My solution is not gained Yet...and it will take time to build it back to some form of...mystery ?...so keep looking out for this Post People, and find reason of it being part truer than most, and in accordance with Murphy, we move in positively straight lines to solve for in future...the problems that will surely arise there in...perhaps, maybe, kinda.....

This Sabertooth x58 system in regards to this thread...is not solved for ...nor is it able to be...as is...So stay tuned in...I am contacting Asus next for the Sabertooth x58 board...and if possible RMA for a revision #2 if one exists in their stock room?

And the other Asus systems that will come online to test SONAR X..with in future....probably with Tweaked OS..and Bios...if all things flow in that troubled state of being again....when reading into the forums here, seems more than likely a possible outlook.

So stock up on the mead, and berries, and hay.. there could be a COW to feed.

Found this tidbit:

Seems more may have this cpu spiking problem then let on by CW.

At the end of the thread of that link..the OP mentions, he turned off Multi threading, and Sonar worked for him.
