When I insert a new audio track in 8.5 it is defaulting to an assignment of my M-audio Fasttrack.  I would like new tracks to default to Master which is then assigned to the M-audio.  Can I do this?

I can't remember exactly how it was done in 8.5, but in the X series, you simply right click whatever bus you want and choose "Set as default bus", or something like that

Right click doesn't seem to be an option in 8.5.  Any other thoughts are appreciated.

Your cursor needs to be in the blank space in the track pane(next to the meters and FX bin).
Right click should work.

I'm still having trouble getting this to work.  I've right clicked in every blank space I see on any given track pane and I don't see Set as Default bus.

However, if I go to the actual Master Fader Bus you can right-click on the bottom of that bus and choose it as the default bus.  Then any new audio tracks added will go to the Master bus.  But if you start a new project new tracks the are added won't default to the Master bus unless you repeat this process again.

I'm trying to have a global setting for all new projects to have the Master bus be the default for any new tracks added.

Thanks.

Try opening the "Normal" project template and make the adjustment in it.

If you make a template that is set the way you want all your tracks then it will work.

I have a template for every type of situation I might use in Sonar. I have all my in's 'n outs set up and save it.
So If I'm recording a backing track, It will give me all the tracks I normally use which are pre set to every in/out plus all my soft synths tracks ready to go. .
Another cool trick is the Alt A to select all, go to - tracks / properties / outputs and select Master. This is also handy to assign all midi tracks to TTS-1 if you want to listen to a downloaded midi file.

Sonar can be clunky until you learn how to set things up properly. Then it's much faster to work with.

Saving a Normal template seems to solve the problem.  Thanks!

Now I'm curious how the problem even started.  I look at older recordings and all new audio tracks are assigned to Master which I want.  I'm not sure when/how M-Audio became the default assignment.

Thanks again.
