  • Am I losing grip on reality? No, I'm just trying to use screensets (p.2)

When I first got a touch monitor, I wanted to use screensets to flip what I wanted to control with touch onto the touch monitor. That way I could basically toggle what was on the two screens.

Unfortunately this didn't work so well b/c track view can't be moved using screensets.

It's possible to reverse it using windows, but it's kinda a pain and not really worth it.

Hm, maybe I'll get round to screensets. A lot of things people like to do in DAWs I don't do a lot of. I'm working on this album by doing tiny bits on one song, skipping to a different song (which is probably a completely different set of instruments), then to another song. I'm not spending more than a few hours on one song before I skip to another. So track 1 uses a full orchestra, track 2 is a typical pop/rock ensemble, and track 3 is 6-part a cappella vocals, it seems like a lot of screensets that I set up would not apply across song projects, and I'd spend more time setting them up and then trying to remember which one was which to make it worth it. I'd way rather say "The 1 key means Track View. 2 means PRV, 3 means Console" etc. and leave it at that.

Not that I can't be convinced...

Thanks. I couldn't find it in the reference guide. Must look more closely.

The thing is there are already keyboard shortcuts for each of those windows within Sonar.

I find that I have 2 kinds of projects, very short or full on multi day. For longer ones it's worth spending a little time, less than an hour, to setup my workflow including Screensets, besides I can import them from another project. After a while I tend to have a routine that I duplicate no matter the project. Short projects too have common elements that I can use screen sets for.

In combination with templates these are indeed very powerful tools. It was FBBs passionate posting. Bout Screensets that converted me.

As Mike has pointed out, those keys already exist but the great thing about screensets is they can be whatever you want them to.

So if you want screenset 1 as a track view, 2 as PRV, 3 as the CV etc. you can do that too. Just set them up how you want them and save as your normal template.
