I still use V-Vocal as well, and probably will continue to do so until I upgrade to the full Melodyne editor. I found that V-Vocal has been more reliable since the conversion to the Region FX protocol, so I consider making a safety copy prior to editing worth it for increased reliability and ARA integration, which will develop further in the future.

Make sure you clone tracks with regionFX as there could be issues when copying clips right now.

Sounds like I should just keep working in X2 for now. Thanks for all the advice. I wish there was more than a band aid. Sounds like Cake is trying to sabotage vvocal. Looks like I may have wasted money on this upgrade and X2 may be the last version I use unless they can fix and make vvocal efficient the way it use to be and should be. I hate downgrades

Better be careful there could be lawyers around ;) Anyway if Cake was doing that I wouldn't have expected RegionFX support with VVocal, or it would not have been bundled at all in X3. Clearly there are a few issues with RegionFX that need to be resolved in the X3E patch.

Besides as Craig says, Melodyne is way to go now... I'd be surprised if VVocal was in X4 but then again Cake is still bundling in Direct X plugins for some reason.

To clarify: V-Vocal is NOT bundled with X3.

I still wouldn't claim sabotage.  It's just a legacy plug-in now.

V-Vocal is not a Cakewalk product, it's a Roland product. From what I understand, it will not be updated further and will remain a DirectX program, which many DAWs don't even support any more. I personally don't think it's worth giving up X3's speed comping, VST3 support, improved video foundation, and Melodyne's audio-to-MIDI conversion because I sometimes want to create a safety copy of a vocal track prior to doing extensive V-Vocal processing.

I think it's pretty clear from the posts here that the vast majority of users prefer Melodyne over V-Vocal, so although I continue to use V-Vocal, with respect to favoring one plug-in over the other I think Cakewalk made the right choice.

Completely!

Majority rules.

PS....I still have Vvocal installed as well because it does some unique things.   I guess I don't understand the overwhelming importance of that original muted clip...?

If VVocal is a Roland product, is it available as a separate product, distinct from Sonar? Is it possible for those wishing to use VVocal in X3 (those new to Sonar and don't have a prior version) to purchase this from Roland?

I don't think you can get it separately, I also did a quick google and Roland seems to have amnesia about the product. V- What?? then...

I can't think why new Sonar X3 users would want V-Vocal though when they have melodyne ... lose a little, gain a lot. If you buy the full editor version then you really wouldn't see the need to use V-Vocal.
