I thought it was pretty interesting and as I like creative takes on things, I'd say kudos and well done.

You have obviously made some non-standard mixing choices for the vocals, and I think they fit your song. My guess is, you are not trying to shoot for the Justin Bieber/ Taylor Swift mainstream here, so again, good on ya.

Too bad it's not 1983, this might have become a minor hit! I can think of a number of quirky bands that were doing stuff like this - Fred Firth comes immediately to mind . . .

funny that... I was thinking pretty much the same thing

The vocals remind me a little bit of Reefer Madness...

Very cool melodies in here Bert. I'd have maybe gone for a different intro, it felt like I'd missed 30 secs of the song when it started.

Have more confidence in your vocals and get 'em up front and not drowned in effects, can't understand the lyrics for the most part. There's a nice David Byrne thing going on, that needs bringing out.

Instrumentation is very nice indeed.

Tom,

Thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts. Yeah, the vocals are non-standard. I was trying to give them a chant/choral feel, in keeping with the song's theme of the connection between romantic/carnal love and spirituality. That translates to multi-tracked, legato parts, drenched in reverb.

I am genuinely intrigued by your thought that this song sounds like lost minor hit from 1983. That makes this number about 32 years too late! Oh well, I've never been accused of being current.

Cheers,

Bert

Cool song idea, and nice playing.  I'd suggest sending the vocals to a bus and compressing them a bit.  Maybe also use a bit of mid-high EQ to make the lyrics more distinct.

As for the drums (especially kick/snare) and bass, they sound a little "canned" to me.  Need some more beef, IMO. :)

Thanks for sharing this!

Yo Synk,
Thanks for listening. Apparently I should have come up with this tune 30 years ago. I guess I've never been in Sink with much of anything.
Cheers,
Bert

James,
Its always good to hear from you. And thank you for the kind words.
Yeah, the intro starts kind of abruptly. I recorded a longer intro and I tried to edit it to where it was shorter and sweeter. And the vocals could use some clarification. I'll have another go at it and re-post soon.
Cheers,
Bert

Hi, Bert,

Excellent work on this tasty sounding classic pop rocker with very cool progressive overtones!

I love the well textured synth work and melodic keyboard fills, and your vocals sound smooth and really nice.  The whisper trick was a nice effect and added an interesting focal point before the melodic solos kicked in.

Really good stuff, Bert!

whack
I like the fact this sounds old school. The lyrics could be heard better and the intro for me is confusing Bert, the fade in doesnt make me happy :-)
