It's been over three years since Gibson bought Cakewalk (feels like just yesterday). And yet, I fail to see any working synergy within the company.

For instance, there's no affordable all-in-one studio bundle that the likes of Steinberg, Focusrite, and Presonus offer (headphones, interface, condenser mic, lite DAW). Back in the day, Roland at least shipped Sonar LE with its interfaces. Gibson does not produce interfaces, but one could easily see Sonar LE being distributed with KRK monitors as a kind of gateway drug. Alas, the last version of Sonar LE to be shipped was X3.

I was also surprised to learn that Gibson owns Baldwin Piano, allowing for the possibility of an officially branded deep-sampled instrument based on the Rapture Pro platform. This possibility too has not been exploited.

So while Cakewalk itself has made significant strides in the past three years, I can't help but conclude that the acquisition has not made Gibson more than the sum of its parts. What am I missing?

What does this have to with BECAN?

Tascam, a Gibson Brand company, bundles SONAR X3 LE (the current LE version) with their interfaces.

I could use a Les Paul again.

Yep, I missed Tascam. And Tascam does have an entry-level bundle offering ("Tascam Trackpack"). Hopefully, once Sonar4Mac ships, they can stop including Cubase LE (with 4x4) and Ableton Live lite (with 2x2).

Still, can't figure out why there's no Tascam-KRK-Cakewalk bundle.

Are we sure Gibson knows they bought Cakewalk? I mean, sometimes when you're at the store picking up gluten-free eye of newt, low fat gravel, whole grain chinchilla tails, or whatever is on the shopping list, you inevitably come home with the wrong items. "How did this 5lb block of cheese slices get in there?"

There's probably some poor Gibson executive still waiting on the delivery of a retirement cake decorated with a miniature walker.

For the record, it was good, but could have used more frosting.

Both my LP and my 335 seem to work in synergy with Sonar here.
