So I think this is covered by what I said previously "you are already happy with what you already have", you are not looking to upgrade your system like the OP is.
 
Maybe your embroidery software requires hardware whereby by wrote "or are limited by drivers that will only be 32 bit", I notice you have issues with other drivers, however please note Windows 7/8 is capable of running 32 bit software (but not the drivers).

I want to move to X3, but I would like to stay on 32-bit in order to avoid compatibility issues with older plugins which are not supported by their developers any more, but work well for me.

Your reason why you don't wish to update to 64 is compelling, however as far as I'm aware the OP does not have any 32 bit embroidery plugins, but I hope to be corrected later :)
