When did a laptop become so hard to carry around?

"It won't be $5, and it's pretty amazing that a mobile platform can actually run Z3ta+. Why drag a 50 pound rack PC or screw around with a laptop and interface, when you can just bring an ipad along with your controller to a gig?"

When someone made a lighter version of it!

I'm still carting my mainframe around.... Never did me any harm... Hard to fit in rooms though. Maybe time to downsize to a fairlight..

When they release a version that can get performance suitable latency. Still waiting on that myself.

@Seth, Me too.  Jelly Bean made some inroads, but Kit Kat took some of that back.

I would have assumed you would need a decent audio interface??? Something like a Roland Duo capture or this new bit of kit from Focusrite. Or can you really get decent sound with low latency out the iPad headphone jack?

Yup, the iPad headphone out could go straight to a DI > FOH, in a performance scenario.

Edit: I've been testing it the last few days with the iRig KEYS controller. It's pretty fantastic and I'm not an Apple, Synth, or keyboard guy.

I don't understand all the iPhone/iPad hate. I have had my phone for almost 3 years and it's paid for itself many times over in terms of being able to run my business on the go without having to drag heavy laptops around etc. The amount of use I've had out of it is phenomenal. I even use it as a Kindle, no need to carry an extra device around. I'm all for audio apps on mobile platforms, they're just another welcome tool in today's incredible arsenal of music tools.

Geez, you guys sound like a bunch of grumpy old curmudgeons.  "those damned kids and their fancy-dancy iPads and techno music are ruining everything!  Back in my day..."

@Keith/Seth - looks great.  Looking forward to it!

Although this does not help me, it is smart for Cakewalk to open more revenue streams.  Like it or not, ios apps are profitable and popular.  Hopefully android will catch up in the multimedia areas.  Caustic is decent.   At it's roots, Android is Linux and theoretically capable of being just as powerful.  I suspect the fact that Samsung is no longer taking a backseat to Apple (at least in the phone dept) will lead to them wanting to be more competitive.  Cakewalk having a foot in the door may eventually lead to even more platforms and possibilities.  I was hoping for a sampler but hoping the new product does well.
