  • What could cause new notes entered into the PRV of an existing MIDI clip not play? (p.2)

You can click the piano key for that line of notes which will select all the notes. Then you can drag up to max velocity or type in the velocity you want in the Event Inspector.

And no I don't have record enabled I think but I'll double check. I was gonna wait until my edits were done and then import them into a new project because this one is getting a little hairy but if a reboot doesn't fix it I may have to do it now instead.

It's only two tracks. My scratch guitar line which I used to arrange and my drum line but both tracks have an extraordinary amount of takes, clones and edits that were created as I built up the song.

So yeah... guess maybe I'll drag the two base clips into my template and deal with any routing as need be but it should be the same as the template because that's where I started.

On a side note - How do you do a mass change of velocities in a single pass? I know you can drag notes in the PRV for a different kit piece, but how would you change the velocities short of drawing them in PRV?

The same way I described above to change the channel

you didn't really describe 'how'. You just said to do so. ;)

Although you were definitely correct as always, scook the process would still be tedious because I'd only be adding a note here and there as needed and they would need to be audible as I worked through the track. Therefore I'd have to change the channel each time.

Doesn't matter though because that does not seem to be the problem...

actually I still don't know what the problem is now. :-/

I tried to select a group of notes and then selected the show velocity for selected notes and nothing came up in the controller pane with Velocity as the choice.

Interpolate would work so much better in this case for editing.

I hope you get a resolve for this issue Beep.

That is why I don't bother to change the channel on the drum tracks. I leave them at 1 like all the other tracks.

As far as the notes not playing, are you using lanes or tracks for each instrument? If tracks try bouncing the clips.

That is how it is done
1) Select the notes, clips or entire track
2) Change the value in the event inspector to the desired value. The value must be different than the value already in the inspector. To change all notes the the value current in the inspector requires changing the value to a temporary value then repeating the process to set the value.

Don't look at the Velocity Pane. Insert the Event Inspector into the Control Bar and change the velocity there.

If you google DigiFreq + Sonar + Event Inspector you'll find a vid that Mr Garrigus made that describes this type of note manipulation VIA Event Inspector.

And no... my problem just got weirder but I'll put that in my next post.

So I restarted Sonar and now the new inputted notes are defaulting to 1 again. I switched them to ten, I tried messing with the i/o section of the Track Pane to switch to MIDI 10 (which makes them input at 10) BUT THE DAMNED NOTES REFUSE TO PLAY!!!

Man... I just want to get some freaking work done. This should be so simple. :-(

I just restarted SONAR and I see the selected event velocities.

Thanks guys for the detailed explanation. I will check out that video on the event inspector. I do basic midi stuff so I do not do much midi editing. I am now on a mission in the PRV to get this smart tool workflow and midi event change smoother.

Yeah, it's a really helpful vid.

For me I THOUGHT I had my PRV workflow down but this damned note thing is driving me nuts. I'm almost ready to call support long distance if a full reboot doesn't fix it. Ugh.

Hi.  This may not be your problem, but the one time I had notes showing in the PRV view that did not play - and this caused me a lot of head scratching - it was because I had reached the limit of how many notes my virtual synth could play at once. I haven't used addictive drums yet, so don't know what limits apply. Hope this helps - thought I'd throw it in so you could rule it out.
