  • What could cause new notes entered into the PRV of an existing MIDI clip not play? (p.3)

fwiw - all of my drum notes are channel one. I dropped them from Superior Drummer 2 groove library. They play without issue. I think the channel pursuit may be a red herring.

If you can point me to the project, I will try to open it here and see if it works or not.

I was confusing Event View with Event inspector. That was my disconnect. Sorry guys. :) That was a good video though.

This just keeps getting better and better.

Reboot did nothing.

Went back to my templates so I could drag the clips into a clean temp. Then I realized at some point the damned samplerate switched to 48khz when I want to work at 96. So the current project is 48 and the clean temp is 96.

Fine. So after much fumbling to try and get two projects open at the same time so I could drag the clips into the template it didn't work. I copy pasted and got an error saying the samplerates don't match but I thought it would be an instant conversion.

This is driving me nuts!!

I understand what you're saying Stephen, but unless his virtual drummer is an octopus, polyphony should never be an issue with drum synths I'd have thought.

Things shouldn't be that difficult. ;) I feel yer pain. If you can, post the bundle and I will see if I get the same results here.

UPDATE: I was totally WRONG and do not know why my record mode solution worked because I did NOT do what I am about to explain originally which IS the solution...

So when you enter new notes into the tracks PRV it WILL create a new take lane BUT if you have Take Lanes for the track already open it will not appear. Also the new lane, at least in my case will be muted so the notes ARE indeed there. The lane is just muted. Holy crap. My notes are STILL being registered on Channel 1 instead of Channel 10 but they are indeed playing. What a mess and a total waste of an afternoon. So it is NOT depending on the recording mode. It is a matter of inputting some notes, breaking open the take lanes (or closing and reopening the take lanes) the Unmuting the new take lane.

Sorry for the confusion.

The solution offered below this vvvvvvvvvv line is NOT correct!

AAAARRRRRGHHHH!!!!

It was because of the comping mode!!! I switched it to Sound On Sound and now the new notes are working!

I have NO idea WHY that works the way it does but I figured it out by going to a completely empty area of the PRV and inputting a ton of notes to see which clip/take on the track they would appear on. The answer is NONE. They weren't showing up on the existing clips but WERE showing up in the parent track BUT not creating a new lane or a new clip in the take lanes area.

It made no sense so just by total fluke and because it had solved previous weirdness I was experiencing while tracking in X3 using Comp Mode I switched to the old Sound On Sound.

TADA!!! Inputted notes sounding properly. At least they did just a second ago.

Good god that took WAY too long to figure out. I'll "laugh" about it in a couple hours but right now between that and the non stop freaking dance music I've been blasted with from my neighbors the past few days I feel like I'm ready for the funny farm... well more so than usual.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me guys and if you see anyone encountering this issue tell them to try disabling Comp Mode. I cannot explain WHY it works but it does.

Cheers.

Is there a reason to use lanes when working in the PRV? I did not think the PRV was lane aware.

Well the MIDI clips do show up as takes with their own lanes and can be selected, comped, moved around, whatever like audio clips. In regards to the PRV though there does seem to be some kind of disconnect that I guess I'll figure out soon enough (like in the next half hour as I see what happens with my freshly inputted data).

I just expected the notes to appear in the in focus lane however that might be horribly wrong.

I will report back later on my findings.

Glad you sorted it out . That's way above my pay grade. I like Bristol Jonseys comment about the octopus on the drums. I think I must have had a centipede in my virtual orchestra when it cut out.

Perhaps it's because I am a relative newcomer to MIDI and things just aren't done this way but why the heck can we not just select a MIDI clip and edit it in complete isolation from all the others without a bunch of extra weirdness? I know you can hide notes and this that and the other but to me it should be one clip, one PRV. Then consolidate clips as need be VIA bounce.

Or at least have a mode in preferences or one of the context menus that allows this type of behavior. Jamming everything together is confusing and seems to only be beneficial for specific purposes. :-/

When you chose the notes to open up in PRV, were you pointing to the clip or the track? That may make a difference too as to what is visible for use. If you chose the clip, it should have worked.

Maybe we need an option like hide inactive events when pulling up the PRV?
