  • Comping quibble: Why do we have to use DIM Solo? Workarounds?

Well as much as I'm digging this new comping stuff this seems silly to me and actually kind of a real problem. It seems that to use the audition features we have to have DIM Solo enabled to hear the other tracks. I never use DIM Solo because... well I don't like it. When I'm doing things I want to hear everything at the appropriate level and I never really have the Mix Module in my Control Bar unless I absolutely need it.

I have set the DIM Solo level to -6db (the loudest option) and it is still far too quiet for me to audition my drum comp clips in proper context.

I've said this in the past... the DIM Solo feature should have a fader and not be restricted to 3 options or at least have MORE level options. Now that it is directly tied to comping I think a 0db option is needed if not a fader.

So unless I'm missing something here (which I probably am) this is kind of an issue for me. I am choosing drum lines which are quite busy and varied and I need to hear the scratch tracks at full volume to choose which ones will work best with the riffs. What quick options do I have to achieve this if any?

Cakewalk... with all the genius behind this why in the heck would you force us to use the very limited DIM Solo option? Please tell me there is another way.

Sorry... I know, not a positive post but this is really weird and I'm not sure what the reasoning is behind it.

Otherwise this is all quite cool. Hope I don't have any more weird surprises waiting for me.

Well I just figured out the workaround and that is to turn down my drum bus.

Still trying to figure out why this is linked to DIM Solo as it is an extra few steps for me and would still like to see DIM Solo expanded if it is now linked to a fundamental feature like Comping.

Cheers.

This has always been the case. Whenever you audition a selection (using Shift+Spacebar), you only hear the selection played. You've always needed to use Dim Solo in order to hear other tracks while auditioning a selection. It's not new.

Hi, Scott. I never used that audition method. Never really fit into my workflow so I've never really noticed but the comping stuff will be useful. Now I'm bouncing in and out of Console View to adjust my Drum Bus which seems to screw up the audition set up. I could see this getting complicated.

Just really wishing for a 0db DIM Solo.

Actually now I'm starting to remember that when I first started messing around with that audition stuff that the low levels and lack of control over the levels turned me off to the point I just abandoned it. The benefits weren't great enough to overcome the volume thing.

Welp... maybe they'll fix this in X4. Kind of bummed about this one.

Please add a feature request on the cakewalk site otherwise chanting will fall on deaf ears. Cheers :)
