It's amusing to see how "politically correct" people jump immediately to defend censorship."Censorship -- the control of the information and ideas circulated within a society -- has been a hallmark of dictatorships throughout history...ideas have been suppressed under the guise of protecting three basic social institutions: the family, the church, and the state." "Not all censorship is equal, nor does all arise from government or external force. People self-censor all the time; such restraint can be part of the price of rational dialogue." (from What Is Censorship?) If I remove a thread about kitchen sinks in Birmingham, is that censorship?
Technically, yes. I am trying to control commercial intrusions, and hence control the information circulated within this society.
But it's important to recognize the difference between EDITING, which is designed to improve the quality of communication, and CENSORSHIP, which is designed to be a tool to control communications and by extension, control the people reading it. I have edited manuscripts for years to make them more readable, include graphics, correct technical errors or fix grammar issues, include references to other articles, etc. Only someone who doesn't understand what editing is would consider that censorship. No author has ever complained of being censored. They thank me for creating a better presentation on their behalf.
I believe the motivation of people who, in your view, are "defending censorship" are actually defending
editing, and appreciate a better presentation of information within this forum. But if you want to ascribe sinister motives, be my guest! It's still a free country. Well, mostly. Or at least somewhat. Just note that your post wasn't censored
