Hello all,
One of the things I'd really like to start doing is transferring a lot of my older material into Sonar and getting it to sound more "modern".  I'm using X3d Producer running on Windows 7 64 bit. These tracks would be coming from DAT, CD, along with some MP3 and WAV files, and most of the material was originally recorded on either a Roland or Fostex HD recorder.  I'm looking to get the tracks louder and punchier mainly, maybe widen the stereo spread a bit.  Don't think much, if any EQing needs to be done, but a good number of these probably have had no compression done to the final mix, so that may be called for.  I know Sonar has a decent supply of compressors, limiters, EQs, etc.  Are there any in particular that would be suited more for "remastering"?  Any thoughts and/or tips would be welcome and appreciated.  Thanks!

You can use any of Pro Channel or any of the included fx to master in Sonar.  If the song has many issues to handle such as noise and others, you could also use iZotope Ozone and Rx.  Look at Ozone to get a general idea for the type of fx you might need for mastering.

I generally master at 88 or 96 kHz and 24 bit.  If you are going to post as an mp3, make sure you leave headroom on your mix .3 to .5 dB as the mp3 compression can boost levels into clipping.

Thanks for the tips, Kevin.  I'll have a look at Ozone just for some ideas, though my plan is to use what comes with Sonar.  Really looking for a little more "loudness" and "punchiness", which I believe I can get through some limiting and compression.  Thanks for the advice on the mp3 posting.  Some of my older material I only have in mp3 format, so I guess I need to be really careful since I'll be re-compressing an already compressed file.  Appreciate the help!

I like the Blue Tube fx for mastering type processes. You might give them a try.
