Hey, Cian,

Thanks so much, buddy, that's exactly the kind of input that I need on my stuff!

For the new mix, I tweaked the verse vocal timing a bit and took your good advice about adding a subtle touch of electric keys in to add another element and change things up a little.

You always do a fantastic job on your productions, and I'm really grateful for all your good input, observations and suggestions on my posts!

Thanks again, my friend, have a fantastic weekend!

Hey, Andy, how are you, brother?  Hope you're doing great!

Thank you very much for giving this a listen for me, and for your excellent input and observations!

I understand exactly what you mean, and I believe you're right on the money about the bass lacking some definition, particularly during the choruses, so for the new mix I re-eqed the bass and slightly increased the volume.  I always seem to struggle with bass guitar eq and trying to keep it from colliding with my darker rhythm guitars in the busy parts of a song.  I'm hoping it's got a bit more clarity in Mix #2 without swamping the low end.

Thanks so much for your very good input and support, Andy, always greatly appreciated!

Best wishes for a great weekend!
Bob

Hey, Mesh, how are you, brother?  It's always great to hear from you!

Great big thanks for stopping by to check this one out for me, and for your much appreciated observations, suggestions and kind words!

You and the rest of the guys here on the forum are truly the best help anyone could ever ask for when it comes to input and advice while I'm working on a mix.  Especially after struggling with my ears (and confidence) from such a long time away from doing this stuff!

For Mix #2 I did some slight nudging on the verse vocal timing and tweaked the eq and volume of the bass a touch, so I'm hoping it's getting closer to where it needs to be.

I really appreciate your Dokken comment!  Dokken and George Lynch are two of my all time favorites and major musical influences of mine on both guitar and vocals.  I played and sang probably 12 or 15 Dokken songs in my cover bands over the years, and I just saw Dokken in concert for the 13th time a month ago at an outdoor show at a local casino.  Don and the boys still kick some major rock and metal butt at their live shows even after all these years!

Thanks again, Mesh, hope you have a Rockin' weekend, buddy!

Guitars don't come heavier than this!  Love the birds at the end.  I suppose she stayed till dawn?  lol!

Wow... rockin'.

Guitars sound great, of course, though perhaps a bit overpowering considering how good the vocals sound.  IMO (and as others mentioned) they need to shine a bit more in the mix.  If I could sing remotely like that I'd be plastering 'em all over!

Slight timing issues aside, one thing that did throw me off every time is the kick drum leading into the chorus.  The drums get a bit lost in that section, and it sounds like you're intentionally syncopating a bit leading in.  So I would try adding some eight notes (or similar) as a stronger transition from verse to chorus.

Did I mention rockin'?

classic Oister "in yer face" stuff!  love it!

great guitar work, Bobster!

I'm listening to mix #2, and you said you've worked on the vocal timing, but I'm still hearing problems there at the chorus- maybe you're trying to syncopate there?  IDK, but it's not working, IMO, the timing of the vocals in the chorus is killin' my buzz for the song!

sorry - I think this is the first time I've had anything harsh to say about any of your songs...but I'd still look at the vocals on the choruses again.

otherwise - great rockin stuff Bobster!

Hey, James,

Hope you’re enjoying a wonderful autumn in beautiful Scotland!

Big thanks for checking this one out for me and for your continual input and support on my stuff!

LOL, yep, for some reason that I’m totally unaware of, the first take on the verse vocals on this came out unintentionally sounding just a teensie-weensie, little bit like modern country to me.  I almost hit “undo” in Sonar and started re-recording the verses, but then I thought maybe it would be interesting to just see where it went.  This is where it ended up, but I’m very happy about your Billy Gibbons comment and ZZ Top comparison.  Makes me feel better about the Hard Rock / Slightly Country mash up still fitting in with my usual stuff!

LOL,  yes, sir, those birds at the end gave me flashbacks to many a long night and early morning after playing on the road with my cover bands, which usually turned out “alright”!

Thanks again, James for your input, friendship and support!  Have a great weekend!

Hey, Mark,

How are you, buddy, hope you’re gearing up for a Rockin’ weekend!

Thanks for giving this a listen for me and for your always excellent, input, observations, suggestions and advice!  I truly consider your help and ideas on my stuff invaluable and greatly appreciated!

Yep, as I mentioned to James above, this was actually an unintentional slight mix of styles, due to my “accidental” vocal phrasing during the verses, but I ended up keeping it because the combination sort of sounded interesting to me for some reason.

For Mix #2 as per your and Cian’s suggestion, I added a very subtle organ part to the second verse and chorus, which I’m also adding to the final chorus for Mix #3, which I’m hoping to get posted over the weekend.  I’m still trying to isolate and touch up the chorus timing issues that you and Reece seem to be hearing, although you suspect the drums and Beagle suspects the vocals.

By the way, you did a truly amazing job on your new Genesis cover, fantastic capturing of the original tones and dynamite playing and production! Great stuff!

Thanks once again, Mark, have a good one!

Hey, Tom,

How’s it going, buddy, hope you’re great!

Thanks so much for popping in on this one and for your much appreciated input, observations and comments!

For Mix #3 I’m going to take your good suggestion for the chorus and reverse it, LOL!   You know all us "live" guitar players never turn down during the chorus!  Instead of lowering the guitars, I’m going to raise the vocals a dB or two instead.

On this current mix I just slightly tweaked the bass eq to try to give it a little more definition without raising the volume much because I agree with your comment.

Thanks again, Tom, I’m grateful for your good ears and support!  Have a good one!

Hey, Tony,

It's great to hear from you, bro, hope you're having a dynamite weekend!

Thanks for stopping by on this one and for your always good input, observations and kind words!

I really appreciate the Sammy Hagar comment, he's another one who's always been a big musical influence on me, and over the many years in my cover bands I've played and sang tons of Sammy Hagar songs.  Beginning way back with "Rock The Nation", "Rock Candy" and "Bad Motor Scooter" from the first Montrose album, moving on to all kinds of stuff from his "Red Rocker" solo albums, then the Van Hagar stuff, and the post Van Halen solo stuff with the Waboritas, and I also really love the new Chickenfoot stuff with Joe Satriani, too!  I saw Montrose with Sammy three times on the very first tour and then multiple times with his original solo band and then with the Wabos.  His bio book was a riot and also a great read for any rock musician.

Anyway, big thanks, Tony, I always look forward to and greatly appreciate your input, observations, friendship and support!

Have a good one, buddy!

Man, you need to be playing this on stage at the next Cabo Wabo.

I love the wall of guitar sound you get there, it's great and your voice is a gift from God and you should be on your knees every morning giving thanks for it, lol. My only comment that differs from any other input already is that your solo is somewhat subdued in contrast to the rhythm guitar riffing going on elsewhere, which results in a lessening of energy just when it should be taking it to another level. To my ear, anyway. Other than that this is a fantastic tune, you're very talented and you produce a great sounding mix every damned time.

How’s it going, buddy?  Hope you’re doing great!

Big thanks for checking this out for me and for your good input, observations and kind words!

For Mix #3, which I’m hoping to post late tonight or tomorrow, I’m going to bump up the vocals a touch, as per your suggestion, add some organ to the third chorus and touch up the timing and chorus transitions a bit.

Thanks again for giving this a listen and for your always good input, advice and suggestions, greatly appreciated!

Have a good one!

Must be mix two I am listening to, sounds like classic Bob to me and I do not hear any country in this.

Good stuff most listenable.  Thanks for sharing.

Yeah... I like your stuff, but man, that ain't country... not even close. Compared to some of your other stuff...it's not as heavy, but it still ain't country.

But nothing wrong with that.

Love the guitar tone.

You gotta have some lyrics about momma, prison, pickup trucks.... wait that was old country.... new country is... pickup trucks, sugar shakers, kegs on ice, bonfire in the country, and ya gotta have a fiddle or a dobro, but a banjo seals the deal....and you can still keep the sweet guitar tone you got going on. A nice clean tele filling the licks works too.

I just wrote a song that tells you how to get that all done.  http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13216873  lol...

Good song Bob... I like it.
