I was referring to the lead vocal.  The reverb seems to have a long tail that sounds a little out of place to me.

I'm listening on terrible little work computer speakers, so I'll withhold judgment on the mix (although, it sounds pretty dang good anyway!) and give it a proper listen at home this weekend.  But, the singing and songwriting are both stellar - very catchy song that is well performed.  You should definitely be proud of this one!

Thanks for giving it a listen, I appreciate your taking the time to give your thoughts! I know what you mean about the speakers, my wife and I are on vacation and I've got a crappy little laptop and there's all these great tunes in this forum to give a listen to. I have a list of tunes to listen to when I get home.

Thanks, Walt, I'll check that out when I get home. Getting reverb right is almost impossible when you mix with headphones. :)

I've taken in all the commentary and have produced a new mix. Interestingly, to my ears it doesn't really sound better, just a bit different. I'd be interested in hearing some comments on this. I've also noticed quite a bit of difference between the wav, the mp3 and the tune after soundcloud is done hammering away at it. I've also updated my original post to reflect this updated version.

Anyway, here are the changes I incorporated:

1. Adjusted the mic'ing of the snare (I'm using Addictive Drums 2) to more heavily favor the top over the bottom mic. I've also goosed the snare volume a tad, along with the kick.
2. I've modified the bass to increase the high pass filter starting frequency to 60hz and increased the slope some. I've also added some upper mids to capture a bit more of my p-bass's character. I think I could do more here but I'll stop where I'm at.
3. I've reduced the reverb on the vocal tracks quite a bit.
4. I've reduced the volume of the synth to allow it to fill out things without getting to onerous.
5. I've adjusted the overall eq of the track to add a bit more top end. Since I don't have very good high frequency hearing it's tough for me to judge whether or not I've gone too far here so comment is very welcome.

Hey, Kevin,

I think your latest post about the new mix has a broken link, I'm getting a "Soundcloud can't find the page" error, so I listened to the version from the link in the first post in this thread, not sure if it's the old mix or the new mix.  But either way, I love it!

This song is spectacular!  Excellent songwriting and arrangement, dynamite vocals and harmonies, and fantastic instrumental performances!  I really love that gritty guitar tone and the tasty solo work, and the piano and keys are like icing on a tasty cake.

I absolutely love the style and groove on this, it sort of reminds me of a really cool modern fusion of The Rolling Stones "Goats Head Soup" era and Atlanta Rhythm Section's best stuff, which I always liked immensely.

Excellent work, Kevin, fantastic stuff!

Wow, thanks, Bob, that's high praise indeed coming from you! I love ARS too, best band I ever heard live. I appreciate you giving a listen, and I'll see about that link.

There ya go, a gorgeous snare now. Vocals seem up front, mix sounds golden to me now.

I get what you mean now with the snare, it does add a heck of a lot. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
