The Gearslutz community seems to consist of 20% who really know their stuff, and 80% who happily regurgitate whatever they've previously read on Gearslutz. No surprise that there's a consensus.

i do not trust anything i read on gear slutz.
i almost never hear really decent recordings there either.
and then, when i do hear one, it's REALLY good!

i always figure, if somebody's spouting a bunch of bs about gear, ok,, let's hear their recordings.

bottom line.

I'm with you on that. One of the reasons I try not to spout much BS.

I never spout about what I have. List it? Yeah. NP.

I own 5 of those:

Fab Pro-L
IKM Stealth
Ozone 7
Elephant (not the upgrade though, I'm still on 3.11)
Waves (actually all of their limiters in Mercury)

And I own two of the honorable mentions:

Slate FG-X
PSP Xenon

So I'm batting 500 as the saying goes.

A few years ago, Charlie Clouser (NIN, White Zombie, SAW movies, AHS) took part in a discussion and answered tons of questions. That's the most valuable/interesting info I've ever read on GS.

i missed that...
that IS the one thing i do dig over there,
when they get pros to come in and share their techniques and insights....

big classified section is a bit overwhelming.....

i do hit the Expert Question & Answer Archives every so often.

i mostly read the mastering and acoustics forums, and lately the live sound forum. Those three have the best signal-to-noise ratio.

But there is no doorman to screen participants, so in the mastering forum you'll often get the self-styled experts and teenage "producers" spouting ignorant nonsense. However, on that forum the trolls are often smacked down with a "quiet, the grownups are talking" response that always makes me smile.

Note to self: Keep the bapu humor off GearSkanks.

Note to bapu: having a sense of humor does not make you a troll.
