What other? Does your track indicate that the recording is stereo? If you zoom in vertically does the line stay flat? I wish that I had an answer for you, but you raise these questions.
I almost always select stereo input even when I use just one input so the track is stereo unless converted to mono. Unused input = left or right half of the stereo track ("the other") is mute so its a flat line.
