Clips will still groove clip correctly with boundaries snapped to zero crossings; those boundaries will be offset from the measure/beat lines by a little bit, but the offset will be consistent from one iteration to the next so sync with the timeline won't be affected.
I don't know Logic, but if it seems simpler in this regard, I'd wager it's because it doesn't offer the flexibility of snap settings that SONAR does. With flexibility comes power, but also a certain complexity and more ways to get an unexpected/undesired result. But in this particular case, it seems SONAR's got you covered either way.
