Long time, no see!  I've been busy working on an album for the past year-and-a-half on a new project with vocalist Amy Jane called Covalente and we just released our debut album titled "Two Worlds Combine." It's available as a digital download and CD from CD Baby, and you can stream it on our new website.  All of the songs were composed and recorded in Sonar (X3 and Platinum).

Now that that's done, I'm turning back to my cryophonik project.  So, my friend Samone Marshalek and I pulled together this groovy little downtempo/chillout track. Download and enjoy. :)

In case you're interested, that track was made in Sonar Platinum w/Battery 4, Nord Lead 4, Access Virus TI2, Kurzweil PC3X, TruePianos, U-he Hive, and Omnisphere 2.

What a singer! Nice playing on the keys too, this is going on my "must play at home on a good system" list. Thanks for this!

Really cool vibe. the bass is very prominent - what did you use for a mix on that? It comes through very, very clear, and doesn't get in the way. Really nice job on that!

Cool call-and-response mixing of those vocals!!! Funny, when I try to compress my breath noises up off the noise floor, it doesn't sound as good as this!  :)

excellent all the way 'round.

cheers,

This sounds great Dave! Really clear mix, nice open air for the vocals. Drums could use a little variation here and there, but otherwise this is very good.

Dan

Thanks Wookie, Andy, and Kevin!  Sorry I'm so slow in responding, but as usual, finishing a song (and album!) means that I have to catch up on the things (like my job) that I've been putting off.  I will get back here this weekend and listen/comment on other songs.

The bass is a somewhat basic saw-bass that I made with Omnishphere 2/Trilian library with some moderate EQ and compression.

Thanks Tom!  Samone will be happy to hear that because it's intentionally what she was going for.  She really emphasized the breaths on purpose - so much that I had to automate the clip gain to lower them by ~5-6dB.  I think what also made them stand out was the filter.  In addition to EQ, I used a combination of low-pass and hi-pass filter (FabFilter Volcano) with a small amount of resonance on all of the vocals - the heavily filtered ones have a much narrower range b/t the low- and hi-pass.

Thanks Dan!  Yeah, I can certainly see your point on the drums - they are pretty straightforward, aren't they?

Loved this track.  You're lucky to work with such a great vocalist.  And she's lucky to work with you. :)  Your bed tracks are smooth as silk.  Fantastic!

Great sounding mix!   I like Walt's description - smooth as silk.   The airy/glassy reverb is so crystal clear and fits perfectly.     Oh, and good song too!

Thanks Walt and Steve! Really glad to hear that people are digging this one.  In related news, Samone and I decided to make a video for it.  My wife and I are both pretty serious (hobbyist) photographers, and I've always wanted to make music videos for each song that I finish, and so it begins.  I shot the footage of Samone and my wife and I did all the editing (Premiere Pro CC).  This is Samone's first attempt, too, and see has a pretty good knack for it IMO!
