I have an allergy to Sony laptops :) Sorry :). They are very pretty but generally their specs are lower than other laptops, they are more expensive, can be fiddly and annoying, and they tend to break. The drivers they supply often don't work well. General lack of quality control but nice and flashy.

Just one persons opinion and no doubt others may say the opposite.

I'm looking at the Vaios too at the moment. My flatmate bought an i7 8GB Fit 15 touchscreen, but all the shops only had display models left making me realize that after Christmas some new ones maybe out. Sure enough this is due to be released. http://www.sony-asia.com/product/svf15a16cg
I figure getting the 15.6 gives me HD resoltution, and the lgrger body 15.6" version gives me 3 USB, as the 15" just has 2 (with a quad capture on one, everything else would have to go through the other)

Then I saw the Envy range from HP, and you seem to get more for your money from them. I'm in Vietnam, so I'm restricted for option and import tax is killer. I haven't seen the Envy's around really here, but i hoping they start poping up in January, like the new Vaios, so I'll make my decision then. I can't do anything until a friend returns after the 9th for the UK with my Quad capture, besides I turn forty at the end of the month, so it's make a good birthday present to myself.

Anything away from Sony is more value for money. Sony are losing money as their brand has basically become damaged goods, not to say that can't be rectified. They however do have Playstation in their bag:
