It is deeply project specific for sure... read the many posts regarding that... I've been trying to isolate it as it seems to be in every project I'm working on created in both X2 and X3... tho not in X3d...

I've removed all tracks and plugins and it starts working at different stages with different plugins still in place... but if i remove all lanes on a track more than 1, the problem goes away regardless...

I'm testing right now and it doesn't appear to be a problem (yet?) at all with new projects started with X3d

It still is a bit "off" as it does zoom it to the correct size, but displays it not fully on screen and I must scroll it to occupy the full screen...

So on first attempts, the problem is only fully "bad" when working on pre-X3d projects...

Yeah, it would be weird if a plugin was messing up the split function, but I guess anything's possible. I opened an X2 project with lanes in X3d, and I still wasn't having problems with alt+click or the s key, so it really must be some strange mix of things in your trouble projects.

Yes...

with everyone's successes I've found tha it is something deeper causing it  as it doesn't happen to everyone with the simple multi lane situation... I've been removing items and testing and have found I can make it go away but different things seem to maintain the situation..

Take lanes is crap. Ended up with about thirty lanes in one track, impossible to get to order. Some so called upgrades definately are a drawback!

There are scenarios in which SONAR may not re-use available lanes as you would expect. You just need to do some house-keeping in between takes to maintain order. But even if you don't,  it shouldn't be that hard to consolidate things after the fact.

Suddenly I found that my "house keeping" resulted in deleting an important recording by mistake. CW! Plze make "take lanes" an option in Preferences!

Layers need to come back. Not as a ''comp tool'' maybe, but as an amazing NOTE or SCRATCH PAD to try numerous different variations/ideas feeding the same inserts/busses quickly -

I believe it is an option in Preferences > Project > Record in the loop recording section.
To set the preference for all future projects change the setting in the project template(s)

comping mode is optional but I believe the comping tool is a permanent part of the smart tool.

The audio file will still exist in the audio folder from which you can re-import it. If it was part of a loop recording, you'll also need to slip-edit it to expose only the take you deleted.

Thanks for replies. I re-recorded the take I lost(?).

I've accidentally deleted takes and then gone on to edit other takes only to find I have to use ctrl+Z to get the deleted take back which then deletes all the edits. Frustrating, but at least I can make those edits again.

There's always the possibility that even though the take was deleted it is still in the Audio folder somewhere as long as you don't use the 'Delete all unused audio' feature before saving. Sequential saving of a project also helps.
