OK...I'll comment on this. I like the overall song.
IMHO, you have a good song. You just need to iron out a few wrinkles.
Piano seems to be a bit loud in the mix. I'd back it down a few dB.
The prechorus is more like the start of the chorus than the chorus is. The PC ends in a note that is a progressive step up.... then on the chorus you step back and come in an a lower note...and by doing so, you take all the power out of the chorus. At the very least, start the chorus with the SAME note that ends the PC. That keeps the energy momentum moving forward.
Rework that key change and guitar break. It was like a "What the....? Where did THAT come from" moment to me. I played it back thinking my player had glitched on me or something. A key change can very well be an amazing moment in a song and it provides an incredible lift in energy when done right.... so don't necessarily scrap it but certainly, take the time to do it right.
During the hand claps.... lose the bass. If you want something in there, use percussion.... conga's, bongos, or just use the hand claps.... instead of a straight up hand clap on 2 & 4 perhaps give it some interest with a... 2 and, 4 pattern or something else similar.... make it interesting
Sounds like you have a few things to work on but you're headed in the right direction what another cool tune.
Herb - thanks for listening and commenting, I appreciate it!
I agree with you about the melody/chord structure on the prechorus, it should not be higher than the chorus and it causes an interrupt in the energy. When I rework this, I will definitely change that.
I'm not sure what rework you think is needed on the key change?Yes, the key change needs work. I can see now how it can be better. thanks.
as far as your advice on changing the handclap area, we'll agree to disagree on that. I think it's good like it is with the bass and I'm not interested taking it out and putting bongos or congas on it. thanks for your suggestions, tho.
thanks again for your comments and suggestions! much appreciated!
