I thought it sounded great.  I agree that the piano could probably come down a dB or two.  Also, the hand claps seemed to be a little faster than the rest of the music, making them distinctly ahead of the beat by the end of that section.  But it was just a small problem.  Overall, excellent stuff!

OK...I'll comment on this.  I like the overall song.

IMHO, you have a good song. You just need to iron out a few wrinkles.

Piano seems to be a bit loud in the mix. I'd back it down a few dB.

The prechorus is more like the start of the chorus than the chorus is. The PC ends in a note that is a progressive step up.... then on the chorus you step back and come in an a lower note...and by doing so, you take all the power out of the chorus.  At the very least, start the chorus with the SAME note that ends the PC. That keeps the energy momentum moving forward.

Rework that key change and guitar break. It was like a "What the....? Where did THAT come from" moment to me.  I played it back thinking my player had glitched on me or something. A key change can very well be an amazing moment in a song and it provides an incredible lift in energy when done right.... so don't necessarily scrap it but certainly, take the time to do it right.

During the hand claps.... lose the bass. If you want something in there, use percussion.... conga's, bongos, or just use the hand claps.... instead of a straight up hand clap on 2 & 4 perhaps give it some interest with a... 2 and, 4 pattern or something else similar.... make it interesting

Sounds like you have a few things to work on but you're headed in the right direction what another cool tune.

Herb - thanks for listening and commenting, I appreciate it!

I agree with you about the melody/chord structure on the prechorus, it should not be higher than the chorus and it causes an interrupt in the energy.  When I rework this, I will definitely change that.

I'm not sure what rework you think is needed on the key change?
Yes, the key change needs work.  I can see now how it can be better.  thanks.

as far as your advice on changing the handclap area, we'll agree to disagree on that.  I think it's good like it is with the bass and I'm not interested taking it out and putting bongos or congas on it.  thanks for your suggestions, tho.

thanks again for your comments and suggestions!  much appreciated!

Kind of hard to give advice on a praise song (being an atheist ), but I do agree with Herb on the chorus. It's crying out to go into the Gmaj there, dropping to C sounds a little 'flat'.

The guitar solo is tasty, but does sound a bit incongruous - something that takes at least a start from the vocal melody might sit better?

Now the positives  - production and performances are all very good, mix comes across well. I might tame the highs on the snare a little, but that's about it.

James my friend, I have no expectations of anyone commenting on the validity of the lyrics themselves!  We have no discrimination on reviewers!

understood about the chorus.  I'll absolutely look into changing that.  Might not happen right away, but when I do look at making a change I will certainly take those suggestions and incorporate them!

understood about the guitar solo, too.  we went through several iterations of guitar solos before settling on this one, but it might be worth it to look at it again.  thanks for the comments there!

appreciate the good stuff, too!  thanks again!

Reece,

Well constructed, executed and performed song.   I would bump the Lead Vocals up a little.   The claps at the end are a little too loud.   Regarding the key change, I too was confused by the change, i.e. where it was going.   Nothing wrong with that particular key change, G to A, it is the path to get there that was "distracting".   I would maybe just find a better choice for transition.   A dominant chord, maybe E would lead to the key of A better than the current chord.  Anyway, good work.

Great job on the vocals Beagle me old mate. I agree, the piano is a tad too high in the mix

Thankee Daryl me mayte!  I'll adjust the piany.

I wanted this one to be piany focused instead of guitar focused, but I probably went overboard.  (throw me a lifesaver, eh? )

Great job on the vocals brother, I enjoyed all instrumentation. I thought the piano was a tad loud too.

Thanks brother Oh!  I appreciate it!  I'll adjust the piano!

I think the guitar is definitely the icing on the cake in this tune. I loved the harmonies but I thought the lead vocal was just a small bit too much up front but fits the music well. The mix was pretty good overall I thought. Even though I have done and continue to do P&W music it isn't really my main cuppa nowdays....Like any other  genre it seems people come with expectations into any given setting. I think this music more than comes alongside any other of this type and wouldn't let any of the faithful down in using it as a catalyst in a worship setting. It more than fits that norm IMHO. Of course the whole idea isn't that this music is really for anyone other than God....and this makes it unique in that way.....so I guess it's really up to what He thinks about it :)

Thank you Tim, I appreciate the comments!

Hi Reece and friends

This song sounds fine to me... Well played and produced.

After hearing something previous to this song, I had to turn up the volume a tad, so either this needs to be "squashed" a little (of course... the previous song may have been over "squashed" ).

cheers

andy

thanks Andy!  I usually don't squash my mix, I like to leave a little breathing room for dynamics and if the listener wants it louder they can always crank it up to 11! :D

Mark - thanks so much!  I agree on the key change, I figured out how it could be better.  noted on the vox and handclaps, again, thanks very much!

Everyone, thank you so very much for your time and comments!  I'm taking this one down for now.  based on your feedback, we'll be reworking the song structure some and that will basically require a complete rework.

we'll post it again when we've got something better!

thanks again everyone!

we do have another song coming very soon, tho!
