Ok, I know the thread title is bad bit I don't how else to put it.

Back in the S serie I got used to overlap clips using the snare, a bass drum or bass note as a "marker" as a
target when moving the clip. it was really easy because we were able to see the underneath clip thru the first one.

I was running XP in those days.

but with the X serie (1 to 3d) running on top on W7 it no longer works this way; the above clip masks the one
below. This means I am now "blind" when I try to with my trick mention above.

Honestly I haven't investigated it...not enough available time.

Is it the way it is meant to be in X... or is there a parm that deals wiyh it?

Thanks and happy new year.

I had to go back and check 8.5, but I'm not seeing a big difference in the way overlapping clips display except  that X3 only allows overlaps in the parent track with lanes not showing, where 8.5 would allow overlaps in layers as well.

In both 8.5 an X3 if you start with an overlap only the non-overlapped part of the clip being moved is transparent. But if they aren't overlapping to begin with, the clip being moved is completely transparent. It's easier to see than to describe, but both versions behave the same as far as I can tell.

I've never really paid much attention to this because I've always worked with layers/lanes showing when I need to align sound-on-sound clips like this, and I would still recommend that.
