HI,

I'm trying to use MMultibandHarmionzer which is a VST effect in Sonar Home Studio 6 XL . Their tutorial says I can write harmonies in a MIDI track and route that to the effect to control its output (the harmony generated). I can't find out how to route the MIDI tracks output to the effect in the audio track. Anyone got any ideas? Is it even possible in HS6?

Thanks

Rog

I would assume it would work like any other vsti.  Do you know how to use basic virtual instruments in HS?  For example do you know how to use TTS-1?

I've never tried that, but IIRC the MIDI track should show as an input in Harmonizers UI, or Harmonizer as an output option for the MIDI track.

I'm not sure of the role of the host software in this. Basically it's like sidechaining, isn't it? I don't know if Home Studio supports it.

HI Beagle,

I have no problem using soft synths but they send theiraudio output to my sound card. I need to send their midi output to a VST effect. I just can't see a way to do that. Thanks for the answer though. I've looked in th MMulti harmonizer GUI but again it is too confusing to simple old me to figure out what t do. With 10 days left on the demo version it's looking like a non starter.

The only MIDI outputs I get are my sound card, Drum map manager and any soft synths I have installed. The Harmonizer is an effect not a synth and can't be set to show as one. How's the Melodyne plug in?

In order to send MIDI to an effect, you have to configure the plug-in as a synth. To do that go into the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager, locate the plug-in, click the plug-in properties button and click the "Configure as synth" checkbox. Then when you add the plug-in into the audio FX bin, add a MIDI track and set the output to the plug-in.

scook is on the money. Configuring as a synth is the key. Follow his instructions, and you should be good to go.
I just checked the free demo in SHS6XL, and it seems to be working properly.
Bear in mind that this appears to work much like a vocoder, so you must have audio data in the track as well as the incoming MIDI data.

Hi.
While using Melda plugins i failed controling parameters using a midi Keyboard.

I searched the web and found this thread. Trying to apply the answer above was not effective for me. I finally found the way to do it. It seems that there's no need to configure the plug as a Synth.
  • Add your Audio Track.
  • Add the VST midi controlled Plugin .
  • Double click on the plugin to open it.
Now click on the VST menu on the top

And click "Activate Midi In"

Now Add a Midi Track and Select the Plugin as a destination.

Hope this helps.

Note : i'm using sonar X3
