What plug in / routing set up do you guys prefer on vocal, if you want a nice reverb, with  subtle delay ...

Thx

Well it depends on the voice...
Breverb, but I'm moving towards NI RC48. Side chained though to reduce the reverb by compression...

Dipping Reverb with compressor:
Add a reverb bus (POST) from a vocal track
Insert compressor after the reverb in bus FX chain.
Insert send from original (vocal) track to Compressor (side chain).

Any ole compressor will do probably...

Cheers...

I wish I had a "go to" reverb.  I use breverb but can't always get what i want from it.  Rverb is great- as is trueVerb (waves).   The new BlueCat plugins are nice, but I need more time to vett them.
The Cakewalk FXReverb is a great sounding verb, but sadly it's not 64 bit compatible.

I'm not being helpful at all.  I guess I'm in the boat with you.   I use all of them and sometimes try several before finding the right match.

Let us know if you find a "go to".

Both of NI's reverbs, the RC24 and RC48, are really, really good. IIRC SOS described them as 'classy'. I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. The 24 is my go to these days.

I have been using BReverb and Valhalla and am quite pleased with them. Got Komplete on the Christmas sale mainly for the instruments. Nice to hear the fx are good too!

Breverb sounds very good to my ears.  A lot of interesting presets to rff off of.

Any convolution reverb w/ selected impulses can work.

A funny one is Cakewalk's FX3 - you can pick it up for free.  I don't use it since moving to 64 bit but it, too, is a really great sounding reverb w/ a great interface (you basically make a box for the reverb).

I'll add a delay in front of the reverb if that is what is needed.  Any delay that is tempo synced will work fine.  One of the native Cake units, or liquid delays from Nomad.

Probably my next venture in the hardware world will be an effects unit just to see how that goes.

Good info (Happy New Year to all). In the first post I was wondering about the settings and chain/bus configuration for a nice reverb-delay mix for vocal.

Simple question, complex answer...

First, I've pretty much stopped using reverb on lead vocals, preferring to instead add some subtle short delays to simulate a room space. I reserve the reverb for background vocals. This helps in creating a soundstage with depth.

Second, the solution for what you're asking depends on why you're using reverb. If you're trying to simulate a live feel, then a real acoustic space has only one reverb "sound." So, you'd create a reverb bus, then send the vocal to it along with whatever other instruments need to have a sense of space, mixed in whatever proportion is required to set up the soundstage.

It's more likely you're using reverb as an effect on the voice and not so much on other instruments. In that case, it will work just fine as an insert effect in the FX bin or Pro Channel. You don't mention how you want to use delay, but most reverbs have an initial built-in delay time that sets the time before the first reflections hit. If you want to use delay simply to "thicken" the reverb, you can insert if prior to the reverb (in series) and the delays will be reverberated.

For me, work well enough the  ArtsAcoustic Reverb (64bit) and SonitusFX Delay. I usually create two buses with InsertFX in it, one reverb, delay another and create sends from vocal tracks or buses to this FX buses (And don't forget turn Dry to 0% and Wet on 100% in inserted Rev/Delay) .
