Yes Brundlefly, I like most, always have the smart grid disabled. And yes the normal snap works as expected perfectly.
Snap is not the problem. Editing to a grid that has next to zero options is the problem.
To give it some perspective, a close friend of mine was a rep for Roland and put me in contact with a few people at Calkwalk who use Protools to edit to the grid.
One said the grid kinda sucks, the other two were a little more diplomatic in their respones but agreed that it has never been that good. All of them shall remain nameless.
I don't care how they implement a grid ie.using smart grid or doing something like Protools.
Again, the only option with the smart grid disabled, is quarter note grid. If you want to line up a bunch of tracks to a 16th note,you have to change your snap value to 16th note and use your now time aim assist to see where everything should be lined up to.
The best case scenario would probably be to just give us an option to have the grid at whatever value we need, and have it always shown (just as the quarter note one is now)
That way we could have snap disabled and and still be able to see the grid.
