All true.  I was just answering the question LOL.

He didn't say "Does Cake have an EXCELLENT Side Chain-able Limiter.
He just asked if they had one...LOL

I'm well aware of the extreme limitations of the the CA-2A as a Limiter,
hence the reason I've never used it for that purpose.

Well we've come from no sidechain limiters to 2 sidechain limiters that aren't perfect... So it's a step upwards :). Thanks :)

It seems to me the whole idea of side-chaining a limiter is problematic. If the material and levels aren't perfect, you could easily get very bad results - i.e. clipping-like distortion. If it were me, I think I would side-chain a compressor with a high ratio and threshold, and put a limiter after it to catch any remaining peaks.

Mainly for effects I'm thinking... Bad results may be good :)

Then use the Sonitus...so what if it's DirectX? It works!

Well that and CA2A appears to be the only choice...

Cheers...  :)

Couple of questions.

I've never come across a "Side Chain Limiter".  What would someone use one for?  How would it work?

Secondly, the Ca-2a is definitely not a limiter.  It has a "Limit" mode, but I guess this is to echo the limit mode on the emulated hardware.  It does not work as the modern understanding of a limiter would.

Thirdly, what is wrong with the Sonitus? It may not be VST, but neither is an original Teletronix La2a or a Pultec EQP-1A Program Equalizer.  If they work well, why does it matter if they're "Legacy"?

My main point is still, why/how would one use a sidechain limiter?  Please excuse my ignorance.

Well I think I've covered what I think here on the previous posts and I and others may have answered those questions. As an OP I marked the thread as answered in #12. I am perfectly happy with the responses given here so I'll leave that for somebody else to answer (I don't believe there are any right or wrong answers here).

My bad, sorry.

I was kind of curious as to why someone would want to sidechain a limiter. Also, since any compressor that can set a ration of 10:1 or more can be a limiter, that opens up a lot more yeses.
