Although I'm not new to Sonar, I am new to these boards so please pardon my noobness. I just installed Sonar X 3 without a hitch but for whatever reason vocal recording attempts are experiencing latency issues (it's moving faster than the beat track). I did some research on the net and on these boards and tried a myriad of suggestions such as adjusting the latency setting in both Sonar and my audio interface (M-Audio Profire 610) and nothing has solved the issue. I'm using the same rig and settings that I've used with previous Sonar versions all the way back to sonar 3!!!). I feel like the issue is solvable very simply but I'm overlooking some little thing (-that or my interface doesn't play well with Sonar now )
 
I haven't tried creating any new sessions yet because I always want to test the build's stability on sessions that were previously created, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. The sessions/data open up swiftly enough and editing the data isn't of any issue, but when I do a test vocal record the problem rears its ugly head. My rig specs are listed below. Any help is appreciated. (I'm off to bed now but I'll check back in the morning.)

Sonar X3c Producer
XLR cabled mic
M-audio Profire 610 (primary audio)
E-MU 1212 (back-up audio)

I'm confused because you seem to be mentioned two different things. When people mention "latency" with regards to digital audio recording, usually they mean there is a delay between actually making a sound/pressing a key/moving a fader and hearing it through the speakers. In effect, "vocal recording latency" would be that you hear yourself slightly later on your headphones/speakers than you're actually singing/talking.
 
But you say your vocal track is moving faster than your beat track? You mean they don't stay in sync? So are the vocals speeding up or is the beat slowing down? What kind of beat? A loop synced to Sonar's tempo?

I don't know if this will solve your issue, but when I moved from X1 to X3 I had some issues with songs that transferred.  What I ended up doing was creating new songs and then copying and pasting the tracks from the originals that I wanted to keep.  I was having different problems, but you might want to try it.

I agree that what you describe sounds more like synchronization than latency.  Make you have the latest drivers for your rig.  Adding some RAM might help also.

Bounce your full mix to a new track, solo it along with your vocal recording track, bypass all your fx bins, record now and see if it still happens.

What driver mode are you using? If you are using two interfaces simultaneously, there's always a risk of clocking mismatches.

Are you using ASIO drivers? I have experienced some sync problems in my early days before settling into using ASIO instead of WDM drivers. Also, ASIO only allows one interface at a time to be used. Like he said, it could be mismatched clock settings on the interfaces.
That being said, on my rigs, ASIO has always run better latency wise than anything else.
 

Thanks guys for all of your replies and suggestions. To answer a few inquiries and clear up what I meant: "Latency" was perhaps a poor word choice. The problem is that when I record a vocal, it appears to be on time during the recording but the timing is out of sync during the playback (its like it was recorded a second or 2 too early), so maybe it's more of a synchronicity issue.

Well I have both cards installed, but I'm using the M-audio Profire as the default card/driver in Windows and in Sonar (I have E-MU turned off in Sonar).

I kinda thought about this.... I'm using WDM drivers (always have without much hiccup), but maybe I should experiment with this issue in ASIO mode.
