I opened my mail to find a BMI royalty statement with a check from airplay of one of my songs in a number of TV shows and films. At first I thought several songs were involved but it does appear that all this was from one song in particular.

I remember writing this in a group of several other similar styled songs. It was not, and still isn't one of my favorites in that group, however, apparently, what do I know?

Here's the details as I can best determine them. There was one song that was used. It was used, however, in at least 4 different places.

2 Canadian documentary style shows that aired on the HISTORY CHANNEL and also on the H2 channel. The shows are:
10 things you didn't know about civil rights .....and 10 things you didn't know about Texas.

These 2 shows placed over 30 cues between them.

The other shows were on the REELZCHANNEL in the following shows:
Beverly Hills Pawn and Hollywood Hillbillies with 30+ cues between them and in 3 episodes of Hillbillies. Close to 70 total cues placed in these shows.

The cues generated anywhere from 4 cents per play up to $7.63 per cue depending on the length of time the song was played in the show. 60 cents came from Canada and 6 cents from the UK.... go figure....

It is, in fact, the first "official" use of my music by the powers that be.  There were a few 'holds" here and there along the way, but they all fell through for one reason or another.

I'm really pleased for you. Well deserved in my opinion.

Herb, The piece of music is great and I can see why they would use pieces from it in this genre. You are a very talented musician an I wish you good luck with your endeavors. Lots of great finger picking and I enjoyed this piece a lot.

The pieces that have earned me the most money are often the ones I liked the least and did in the shortest time with almost the least effort put in.  Nice tune too. I can see why it would be used. It would work in many situations.

No it did not happen through TAXI.  I stopped being a member several years back. They were turning down every single song I submitted to them. With a few exceptions.... I did get a 5 for 5 forward on a bluegrass listing.Nothing ever came from that 5/5 listing.
 
But no, this was the result of me looking for and finding a few good libraries on my own and working through some other listing services that do not charge several hundred dollars a year to be a member.  Another listing through a $6 song submission landed me the chance to submit cues to the Duck Dynasty show. I didn't get the placements but I did get the open door to another very well connected library. I sent 41 cues to him and he sent them all the the DD producers. I've since sent in a bunch of tunes. I also landed a library in Europe that appears to be well connected with film & TV as well as artists over there.  They have several of my tunes as well.


The ones I like are the guys who send me the lists now of what they specifically are looking for with regard to the shows they are aware of.

The funny thing was, I was never informed when it happened. A check and statement shows up in the mail and that's how I found out. I'm not complaining, mind you.... it was a great way to start the week.
