I just popped open a new dork metal track I started a few weeks ago before I wore off a chunk of my figure and got sucked into other mayhem. Thought I was going to have to keep writing riffs but I think I've got enough to slice and dice a cool structure as is. Time to hook up the padKontrol and see what kind of mess I can put behind it. Cheers!

LOL, I store my Ebow in the original box... sadly I don't open those boxes very often... little kids who love to pull "stringy" things like cords and even the tape out of cassettes train you to put stuff away!

I just noticed something weird.. I disconnect things and happen to look up at GR5 and it says 11% CPU... then I look at my CPU monitor and it is 1%... what is up with that?

put GTR Rig in low processing mode......top right hand corner the little "HI" icon, that will rapidly reduce CPU use.

I love this thread! At last a noise thread!!!!!

Goes to show how versatile Sonar can be.

I was just curious what the CPU % means on GR5, since it didn't match actual or even close. Is that what it "expects" to require for the loaded settings?

I *think* from my experience, GTR Rig in hi processing mode will start to hog everything else and as you add more and more versions of GTR5 the whole thing starts to swell and balloon and it gets out of control (drop outs, latency, stutters etc)...

I had this about a year ago after one project had about 30 instances of GTR5 so rather than freezing (which is suicidal in Sonar with GTR5) I found out from NI tech support to do the Low Processing mode..... I have never heard a difference in keeping "HI" unchecked and have been merrily bashing out noise with no latency, dropouts and stutters ever since.

I think Sonar is kind of the best package out there for wacky, everything AND the kitchen sink type freakout music. When I was looking at DAW packages I needed something that obviously functioned at a pro level but because I sold my drum kit/ditched my rehearsal space and wanted to go beyond just a basic rock set up all the synths and stuff were a major bonus. Everything else seemed to be very limited as far as instruments and I would have had to spend a crapload more to really explore some of the chaos that bounces around the old noodle. Now that I know WAY more about MIDI and synths I can get this party started. ;-)

Hey Beep, I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Softube has a plugin called Acoustic Feedback that's very cool and realistic sounding. Check it out on their site. They have a video so you can hear it.

I am sure Gibby Haynes would comply with that comment although in CAPS
