What card do you have? Mine is in my footer.
I'm on driver 9.18.13.1422 and I find this stable. If you have a different model of graphics card the chances are your experiences will be quite different even if it is still NVidia. The last time I experienced an issue similar to yours was a long long time ago (driver related).
 
The thing about graphics card drivers is you don't need to be too cautious as if anything goes wrong you can always roll back to an earlier or your previous version if you take down the version numbers without wasting too much time.
