  • Question about V-Studio 100 and Roland Duo Capture with Sonar X3 Studio

Hi!  Hope you guys can answer a question.
I am on Windows 8.
I bought the Duo capture basically to add a couple of XLR inputs to the V-Studio 100.  However, whenever I have the Duo capture connected I can only use the V-Studio as a controller.  In the preferences screen (Sonar X3 Studio) the audio inputs and outputs for the V-Studio are greyed out.
Is there any way to set things so I can get the audio inputs and outputs from both devices at the same time, and use the V-Studio as the control surface as well?

Thanks!

ASIO drivers are recommended for both of your devices but the ASIO standard only allows one device to operate through any driver at one time.

It means you can't use both at the same time. There is no work around except to try to use WDM drivers but then you will have synchronising problems.

If you need more inputs, the best thing is to buy a unit that has what you need.

OK, thanks!  So it's not possible to do what I was thinking.  What I am trying to do is add powered XLR inputs to the V-Studio 100- which I really like- but I don't need the V-Studio 700.  So-

I think a sub mixer into inputs three and four does it, but of course that sub mixes down to only two tracks.  Workable but not optimal.

Is there some kind of expansion board that would connect to the VS-100, not the computer, maybe through MIDI and the digital input?  Does V-link do anything that would help?

Any ideas?  Thanks!

The V-Studio 100 can be expanded with an Octa-Capture. There is a link on this page about using the Octa-Capture with the V-Studio 100.

OK- I had initially looked at the octa-capture, but I don't need that many inputs.  I thought the Duo was just a small octa-capture but apparently not.  Thanks!  What about the quad one- would that do it?  I don't need 8 inputs.

Thanks!

Len,

it all has to do w/ the ASIO drivers and if Roland makes the units stackable.  YOu'll have to check the specs or the Roland (and maybe the cakewalk) forum to see if anyone has used those exact units.
