Indeed, you need the symbol files (pbs) or the full source code for it to go anywhere (not something Cake is likely to supply  ). I'm sure you are probably aware the debugging service will take a lot of resources....

Anyway...

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSVCR110.dll
Looks like you may need this:

Windows update may want to deliver this package (possibly in the optional area) as well. Best done through that method I suggest if it is available.
Cheers...

I have 2012 and check my updates and don't see that I have 2012.4 update...

Thanks and I'll let you know how it goes after a few days...

Just installed 2012.4 updates (x64 and x86 versions) and checked msvcr110.dll version and still the same version - although it does show now 11.0.61030.0 redist (x64 and x86) is installed from programs and features..

Anyway, see how it goes..

Thanks for the suggestion Alex, I think you've nailed it...

Glad you are fixed.

I STILL have no idea why you as a matter of choice run with ASIO4ALL when you have a perfectly good audio interface that has support for Windows 8.  It just does not make any sense - from what you have posted - I must be dense.

I believe if you were to remove ASIO4ALL completely and instead use your Focusrite audio interface, that you would get better results (using the Focusrite ASIO drivers).

I would also point out that while some folks deliberately keep their computers from running Windows Update, I can assure you that the Cakewalk folks are developing their software in a Windows environment that has all routine maintenance applied, and in fact their installation process REQUIRES a certain level of applied maintenance.

I highly recommend you make sure Windows is up to date with maintenance prior to installing ANY Cakewalk updates/upgrades, in addition to my suggesting that you consider using your dedicated audio interface.

ASIO4ALL is essentially masquerading as an ASIO driver, but to do what it does, it sucks the life out of your system.  A purpose-built audio interface, such as your Focusrite, uses dedicated hardware/firmware, and takes most of the load off of your computer's resources.

Hi Rob and Alex,

I really thank both of you for your help! I really appreciate it and am sure others do too! Your both masters at sonar no doubt and do look out for your suggestions and recommendations in other posts you make and know I can trust them too.

It's interesting that I DO have my Windows update settings to automatically update recommended updates and Microsoft updates.  I also did run the check now for updates and it had NOT found any, so I manually applied the 2012.4 redist update - beats me!!! (maybe cakewalk should package this in to their updates) anyway I'll need to investigate further why windows update hadn't found any new updates based on my version of the redist software.

Why I don't use the perfectly suited focusrite sound card?  I'm glad you asked and if your interested read on...

I normally use my notebook as my DAW - HP Envy 17-j005xt, the HP Envy Recline 27" k001a is one the whole family share and I personally haven't used much.  Having said that, I don't use the focusrite external soundcard because I use my laptop and having cables and headphones and the device itself dangling seems to get me into trouble with the others here, and causes my laptop to be less mobile - remember I'm a hobbyist at this and make no $$$ using my DAW - if it were to be the case I would have definitely had a purpose built standalone system for this.

My study is where I would connect all the devices for my laptop DAW - though my study is my place of work and even there I don't usually mess around with my DAW.  However when I do, this is where I come into problems with interchanging the driver mode settings in the DAW from using the internal sound card to the focusrite - I previously reported that when I change driver modes in sonar this would cause sonar to crash. I was also finding lots of crackles and pops and latency issues when focusrite wasn't used - the asio4all seems to have settled all this behaviour and have stuck to it ever since. I haven't had any issues using it in this way!  To be honest haven't bothered to use the focusrite unless I want to lay some guitar tracks down.

So there you have it,  I'll one day get around to re-arrange how I use my study and will spend more time in there using my DAW on my laptop instead of work. At the moment when I am in my study I sub-consciously go into work mode and can sometimes lose myself doing work - sadly my work is none related to music or using my DAW, although I do enjoy my work as well....

Thanks for listening and cheers...

The dreaded 'family' :)

I figured it was something like that - anyways, glad you are more stable now - those might have been optional updates - I don't recall.

Best of luck with it all - by the way I am by NO means a Sonar 'master', and learn things every day from others in this forum.  I am a keyboard player that also happens to be a computer programmer.  Most of what I do in Sonar is midi-based.  There are GIANT swathes of areas in music production I have NO clue about, and have a great deal of respect for the whole audio mixing side of it all, not to mention the mastering process.

Take care,

Same here, not a Sonar master, I've mainly had experience in software development, quality control and consoles in old recording studios (most longer exist) as a sound engineer, and maybe I was a Cakewalk master the 1990's although I've forgotten.

In fact I'm going through the manual and tutorials everywhere I go right now to nail this X3 down and I'm still learning something new everyday (and coming up with a few issues along the way). Best of luck....
