There should not be a feature request needed for something to work like it is logically supposed to. I expect that each lane would have one and only one clip per lane with loop recording. I have no idea why that is not possible when it was before X3.

The functionality of auto-splitting and muting comped takes is not illogical, and is working as intended in this case. If you want a change in something that is working as intended, a feature request is the only way to get that.
 
And be sure to tell them whether you want the entire previous take muted so you only hear the leftover or whether you want them both unmuted so they play together until you manually delete the leftover - both sub-optimal solutions compared to how it works now as far as I'm concerned.
 
 

This was a brand new project, FRESH 5 minutes before I posted the error.
 
My subsequent error occurred by opening the project and hitting record with the track armed. nothing else.
 
My default at that time was sound on sound, not comping.

The full-resolution image you posted clearly shows the Record button displaying the Comping mode graphic. 

I had the recording settings on Sound on Sound. Not my fault if the graphic didn't change.  ;)
 
I just changed it after Alex pointed out the comping default in his reply to me. The record button still didn't change after that switch. Maybe it is a situation where you have to change the parm and then change the parm back to get what you actually want. Kind of like those buffer settings Alex and Craig were talking about.
 
All I know is that I had SOS default when I reported the error because I changed it to comping AFTER Alex replied to one of my posts.
