• SONAR
  • Stereo Tracks for Mastering then Burning to CD?

It has been a long time since I've done some recording and then burning a final copy to a CD -- since I had my VS2480.  With the 2480, I would use the "mastering" feature which would burn all the tracks to a set of stereo tracks.  Prior to burning to CD, I would put several songs in one project and insert markers (so the CD player knows where the beginning of each song is).  Needless to say, Sonar is not a VS2480.

I've got three songs in one project.  My natural instinct is to burn the project to stereo tracks and insert markers prior to burning to a CD.  Is this possible in Sonar X3?  I've looked at the manual (through my preconceived filter regarding burning to stereo tracks) and I am not quite understanding if what I've got in mind can be done.  First of all, when burning to stereo tracks, I thought I would have a mastering capability where final touches could be put on the project, either manually or with presets (which the VS2480 had).  Then, of course there are the markers?

Anyway, there appears to be a wealth of experience out there for this type of thing.  I will be very grateful if someone could share how to get a decent mastered CD.

SONAR does not burn Red Book CDs. I use CD Architect. I am sure there are several free solutions out there. Pyro is a low cost solution make by Cakewalk.

RA1222,

It's not RedBook, but you can just export 3 Stereo Wave files (16 bit 44.1) and use Windows Media Player to burn the CD. It will have track marks between each WAV file.

Sony is having a sale on another thread - Sound Forge Studio or whatever they are calling it would work.  Or pyro.  Or many other programs.

another +1 for CD Architect.   It is included inside Sound Forge Pro.  SF is also a great tool for doing layouts for CD's and then burning them.  I also received an offer of 30% off the list price.

I'm quite surprised. They have a "burn audio CD dialog" (utilities > burn audio cd) but your saying it is not Red Book? I use CD architect so I have never tried to burn a CD within Sonar. Sounds like I should be glad I didn't.

Cakewalk even provides a couple of tutorials on "exporting/cd burning/sharing", but the CD burning would be pointless for most people if it isn't Red Book.
