I'm hoping someone with the knowledge base could help me with this issue:

I am plugged into my OCTA Capture preamp, to my desktop computer using an onboard Realtek ALC887 audio device, which is optically connected to my home receiver, which should produce sound to my speakers.  I can hear the guitar through the playback (when I record myself) playing through my speakers, but I can not hear the guitar through my speakers when I am playing live.  I can not get the SONAR X1 LE drum templates to record and playback either even though I hear them playing through my speakers.

I'm assuming that I have some setting wrong, but could anyone provide any help or insight to what the problem is?

Generally speaking monitoring your live input signal through SONAR just requires enabling input monitoring (a.k.a. Input Echo) in the audio track by clicking the button that looks like this: )))

But I don't understand why your Realtek is involved. The Octacapture should be handling both input and output of audio with driver mode set to ASIO in SONAR. In this mode, SONAR won't see your Realtek which you can leave it available for use by Windows and generic multimedia apps.

As for the question about "drum templates", you'll need to describe what you're doing in a little more detail. If you're using a soft synth for drums, you don't record that; you freeze or bounce the MIDI/Audio or Simple Instrument track(s) associated with the soft synth.
