Those of you that do not venture downstairs to the Software forum or visit KVR may have missed this bombshell http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2946631

So far that seems to be the only revolutonary revelation about this product.

I still really like SampleTank 2.5 (and the other related products I have with it, like SonicSynth2).  The only thing I don't like about it is a few of the interface things are just "off", like the fact that the mouse wheel STILL doesn't work and obviously never will be.  There are a ton of great sounds in these packages.  Honestly, pretty much everything I need is in one of these packages.

I'd seriously consider this upgrade if it were price effective and got good reviews as being a new version of as strong (and fun) a plugin as ST has been for me.

I have Xpantion Tank libralies but never use them because I find Kontakt and VI.ONE much better soundwise. How is the full version of Sampletank compared to these two or Dim Pro or maybe Halion Sonic 2?

I have 2.5 and all expansions except the loops and Miroslave CE. Miroslave is still very nice and there is useful stuff in Sampletank. It does tend to be my third port of call when looking for sounds after Kontakt, Independence and Dimension Pro. Its closer to Dim Pro than the other two as it lacks key switches, but Dim Pro has the edge IMHO.
I don't experience the bridging problems that affect a lot of others, but the interface is pretty nasty.

With ST3 a lot will come down to the upgrade price. Its going to have an all new big factory library so I doubt if it will be cheap. It would be nice just to be able to update the player so one could take advantage of the new interface and 64 bit without having to pay for a library that I may not need. The bread an butter stuff I have pretty well covered already.

I does not look like they are picthing it at the Kontakt market, making it more of a ROMplier for their content. One that is much simpler and (probably) much less powerful than Kontakt.

I hope Cakewalk make the decision to make X4 64 bit only as well. 32 bit needs to be stamped out like Internet Explorer 6.

I don't disagree, but its a bold move to be the first!

Only if they can update at least their own bundled plugins to 64 bit (VC64 anyone?) and pretty much guarantee a near 100% reliable BitBridge.

There's an ie 6 Now ?? Who knew ???

Don't know why this should matter to you. It's already 64 bit only if that's how you install it.

As always there is a logical reason. If everybody ran 64 bit there would be a few less issues to resolve than with 32 bit. Also software companies will have less versions to test which means far more time for testing 64 bit. That would be a big deal.

BTW IE 6 is a website developers nightmare. Even MS had enough of it. So you know now.

I agree paulo - tbh I don't understand CakeAlexs' comment at all. It already IS exclusively 64 bit if one selects that option at install....I for one think it is a good model offering separate versions to be installed at the users discretion.
