Subject says it.

I was testing something in an older project created when layers were the thing.
In this project I used the layers to create multi voice vocal sections for soprano alto and tenor backup vocal parts.
I don't work this way often but I did in this case. I was trying to test out some ideas about how to edit etc in the same way with x3d because of another thread.

Hoping I could find a way around the differences in lanes and layers. I got close to my goal but encountered a problem. As I was working with the different tools...( smart tool, edit tool, select tool, comping tool) coming up with a process to emulate the older layers method of overlapping clips in lanes I was hitting ctrl-s to save as is my habit when doing lots of editing. .... after a while trying different things I got the General Failure dialogue box when trying to save.

I was able to close without saving a reopen the project. and saving worked again. However after another session working with the various tools and undo etc I got the same General Failure message again after a while.

This could be project specific as I have not seen this error before now and this project was created either with 8.5 or x1 not sure which.

I have not come up with a recipe yet but was wondering has anyone else had this problem?

What does it say in the windows event viewer/Administrative Events, if you have the error message please paste here by right clicking the red icon -> Copy -> Copy Details as Text

Cheers...

There are no error or warning entries in either the system log or the application log during the time when I got the error.

It seems to be an internal error to Sonar. Sonar does not crash in any way and is responding. As I stated I can close the project without closing Sonar and then reopen it and the save will work.

I was trying several different things and using the undo a lot during these sessions so not sure what sequence of events triggered the error message.

Hi Tom, I have gotten this error before when playing with very large projects. The issue was my I/O buffers needed to be bumped up (Advanced Mode: Preferences->Audio->Synch and Caching) to 512. Basically SONAR was trying to write to the drive quicker than it could handle.

I hope that helps.
