Hi all,

Preparing for an X3 Producer install I uninstalled 8 and 8.5 because of space issues on my laptop. Still have X1 and X2.

All my 32-bit effects won't work in X2 as they are incorrectly installed apparently. Z3ta+ can't find Bitmap resources and Windows won't let me associate CWP files with X2.

If I sort these out with your kind help should I then be uninstalling X1 and X2?

Thanks!
M

Keep the old Sonar versions.
However if you have space issues and your installations are pretty muddled, you might want to consider backing up and reinstall Windows from scratch (nice new clean installation newly formatted),

Cheers...

Thanks.

I am considering a fresh install, would get rid of a lot of HP bloatware for sure, but needs time for a bit of careful planning.

Any idea how I can get my 32-bit FX back in the meantime?

Cheers

If you are running 64bit SONAR and the 32bit effects in question are DX plug-ins (i.e. older Cakewalk plug-ins), the only way to positively get them to work is install a 32bit version of SONAR. You may be able to get some of the working by using a DX-to-VST wrapper like dxshell so they will load into BitBridge.

This is a question that constantly gets asked, that and can I install Sonar x (meaning the newest version) along side the existing version.
The answer is: install the latest version, BUT don't touch the old versions.
You "hosed" your plugs when you uninstalled version 8.
You have space issues, and that's the ONLY reason to uninstall.
Sonar installs its own "bloatware"; demos, loops, that sort of stuff.
Go into pref's, file locations, and find where all that got put.
There's probably a "user" folder for each version, that crap can go.
Alexs is right about a fresh Win install, PITA but that's probably your best bet...
Backup any "presets" and track templates you've saved first!

Thanks guys,

I guess I shouldn't have listened to the PC manufacturer/guru who told me to get rid.

So far it's some VSTs (Glaceverb/Kjaerhus) and Rapture64LE that don't work.

The VSTs are installed but X2 doesn't like them as much as it used to....

As far as 3rd party VST plug-ins, check you scan path. Even then, you may have problems with some older 32bit plug-ins in 64bit SONAR. If BitBridge does not work with your older VST plug-ins, the solution may be jBridge or ultimately running 32bit SONAR. I did not know there was a 64bit version of Rapture LE. It may be having issues running alongside the full VST version that comes with X2/3. If that is the case, it may require a clean reinstall of both to get the old Rapture LE running.

Actually it appears to be all 32-bit plugins. They all worked fine in X2 before.

Damn.

The 32bit plug-ins should work equally well in 64bit X2 and X3. If you just installed X3 make sure to reset and rescan plug-ins http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013315

Thanks scook I tried that in X2 and they all disappeared. I wonder if they will come back if I install X3? I'm not confident, but it would be nice if they did.

I tried moving them from the x86 folder to the 64 bit folder but that hasn't worked either.
