Well I just noticed someone put this on Youtube:

Brings back the old days. Just before Windows people were pushing DOS to it's limits.

I started on Cakewalk Dos Ver3 way back, about 25 years ago. I bought a SMPTE card and I synced the thing to a Fostex 8 track reel to reel, so I could record audio. I used a Roland R8 for drums and a Yamaha TX 81Z and a Roland U-110 for sounds. My keyboard was a Roland Rhodes MK-60 (which I gave to a friend and it still works great).

I guess I am really an old timer.

BTW, sorry if there is already a thread showing this video.

Intresting - Its come a long way! I never used a DOS sequencer, at that time I was using hardware: A roland MSQ sequencer synced to a Alises drum machien and a Roland MC202 for CV and Gate and recording on a Foxtex portastudio.

I started with computers using Cadenza on Windows 3.1 and moved on to Cakewalk when Cadenza went out of business.

I started as well with Cakewalk v. 3, Midiman I think the interface was called, and connected to a Roland D10. MIDI all the way!

There should be competitions for people trying to write music with that occasionaly!

Hehe, that video would be mine :)

To tell the truth, I never sequenced with CW5 for DOS... that video was of the demo version of the program. I've been looking for a copy of the full version of CW5 though, simply to add it to my historical collection :)

That being said I DO STILL use Cakewalk Professional v3.01 for Windows as my primary MIDI sequencer, even today :) Runs great under Windows XP (I'm assuming under Vista/7/8 if you run it under Microsoft's "Virtual Machine" as well, but I'm not sure about that one), and has EVERTHING that I need for my usual MIDI sequencing.

I remember back in the day purchasing and installing CWP5 and CWP6... and I HATED them <puke>, compared to what I was/am used to with CWP301, and what I can do with it :)

Anyhow, for the interested, three nice pics (CWP301) :)

(EDIT) Seems that I'm not allowed to post links in this message <AARRGGH>, editing with a roundabout method (copy/paste/edit the URLs where needed: you get the idea)...

Oh no more bug fixing...

How many buffers in EMM386  do you have set? Have you tried renaming your AUTOEXEC.BAT??

It would be really cool if Cakewalk just gave away the DOS version, unsupported.

It would be good for marketing and cost them nothing.

I used to really enjoy midi, until it moved to windows.

Plus, the memories...
