Hey people...

I'm using X3 Producer with a Quad-Capture interface on a Dell XPS i7.  I'm in an endless loop with support in an attempt to get quantize to work.  Here's what happens:  I'll record a MIDI track.  After recording I'll select the track and either go to the Process menu or hit 'Q'.  Once the menus come up, anything else I do will hang the system (spinning blue donut from hell).  I can hit audition and the transport will move, I'll see activity on the MIDI track but no audio and then HANG.  This is true whether I use groove quantize or just quantize.  Oddly, if I dump the Quantize MIDI effect into the effects bin of the MIDI track it won't hang but it produces really weird results that in no way match the settings in the menu.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Support suggested (after providing the requisite system and dump files) to uninstall and then re-install X3.  I slogged through all that and also reinstalled all drivers (video, USB, audio interface, etc.).  No luck.  Any suggestions?

Hello welcome to the forums!

Are you able to update your footer like mine so we know your system specs (hardware and software)?

Have you updated to Sonar X3D yet, and reset and rescanned your plugins. Also could you please try this on a brand new project.

Otherwise you should be looking at renaming your AUD.INI file (which will reset your preferences). Oh and please run Windows update (always good for a laugh).

Thanks...

Also, when you uninstalled, did you delete the relevant registry keys? And, did you run the X3 .exe "As Administrator"?

Some self-trouble-shooting tips (not to shoot self): Does it happen on every newly recorded midi track? In a new project with just that midi track? How short of a recording can you do that causes that symptom? On a short project/track that causes the symptom, how does the event view look? Every event accounted for as being your performance? Can other edits be done in that track, e.g. drag a note to somewhere else? Perhaps it is not quantize per se but something else about doing dialogs on a track (i.e. other than quantize)?

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.  I did the uninstall based on the step-by-step instructions provided by CakeSupport which included deleting the relevant registry keys.  I have done the X3d update.  All drivers were reinstalled, all updates done.

Even if I do a completely new track with a different instrument it happens.  Event viewer gives this error in Application Events:

The program SONARPDR.exe version 20.0.4.278 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
Process ID: 153c

There are System Events showing the system dumping my Axiom keyboard and QuadCapture connections.

In every case it requires a re-boot to restore the system.  If I attempt to re-launch X3 it won't find my audio or MIDI devices.

Could you show us?

Also it would be nice to know the full detail of the errors in event viewer.
Right click on event (in list view, where you see multiple listings of errors) copy -> Copy Details as text.

Could you update your footer with the specifics? Thanks.

Thanks...

I have had audition crash the quantize menu since X1 and I never did manage to solve the problem.  I simply don't use audition in the quantize menu anymore.

When I say I have to reboot I man a cold re-boot.  The system will not restart until I disconnect my USB devices (QuadCapture and Axiom).  Once it has restarted I can plug them back in.  And to be clear, this doesn't just happen in quant audition.  Anything I attempt to do in quant or groove quant (through the process menu) or by using 'Q' causes the same thing.

Are you using Antivirus, if disable real time virus scanning temporarily to see if this makes a difference?

I think you should unplug your Axiom keyboard, remove your keyboard software. Reboot and install the latest software and firmware if available.

Same with RDID1117 but don't really know what that is?

Please check all your devices that are plugged into your PC and see if there are any firmware updates (inc your PC's BIOS).

If this doesn't fix it backup your machine, then run CHKDSK followed by SFC /SCANNOW in an administrative command prompt.

Try renaming your AUD.INI file.

All I can think of right now...

Cheers.

So... I disabled real-time virus protection (using MS Security Essentials).  As mentioned, all drivers/FW were updated/re-installed prior to re-installing X3.  Lo and behold quantize worked!  Audition doesn't work but there is no hang/crash in any quantize function.  I enabled real-time protection and quantize STILL works.  I'm a bit uneasy that the problem is really solved but appreciate your help Cake in getting me this far.
